A complete makeover for a sprawling Tudor style ranch.
This Northbrook home, built in the 60s, had survived a number of renovations and additions throughout the 70s and 80s. But the time had come to do it right.
This home renovation was both complete and dramatic – inside and out. We were able to breathe new life into the 40+ year old structure by:
• Removing the tired brick exterior and wrapped the home in a lighter, warmer exterior of lannon stone and cedar shake siding
• Gutting the entire interior
• Replacing existing plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems
• Moving a number of walls to optimize space and flow
• Adding six bathrooms
• Installing a new kitchen
• Adding new windows and doors
• Creating a home theater
• Building a brand new pool house
• Constructing an attached three-car garage
Though the project was a considerably large transformation, we were mindful to infuse the craftsmanship with custom, thoughtful details throughout. Because when it’s all said and done, it’s the little things that truly elevate a space.

The beautiful mix of grey, chocolate and buff stone on the exterior, quarried from a remote rock face in the Carolinas, creates a non-centered focal point on a remarkable bridge that connects the main house to the guest wing barn

Dining room with wine showcase - a floor-to-ceiling, 30-bottle rack with stone walls and specialty low voltage lighting causes the tall glass enclosure to look like a light fixture of wine bottles, adding to the elegant mood of the formal dining room

A dramatic hallway connects the guest wing to the main family living quarters.

Retaining all the character of a 1923 whimsical while expanding to meet the needs of an active family of five.
This classic and timeless transformation strikes a beautiful balance between the charm of the existing home and the opportunities to realize something custom.
First, we reclaimed the attached one-car garage for a much-needed command central kitchen - organized in zones for cooking, dining, gathering, scheduling, homework and entertaining. With a devotion to design, a stunning, custom, nickel Ann Morris pot rack was chosen as a focal point, appliances were concealed with painted, raised-panel cabinetry and finishes like white quartzite countertops, white fireclay sinks and dark stained floors added just the right amount of light and color.
Outside the bustle of the family space, the previous kitchen became a butler’s pantry and richly-paneled library for reading, relaxing and enjoying cigars. The addition of a mud room, family room, and a wonderful space we lovingly call “The Jewel Room” for its heightened luxurious detail, completed the perfect remodel – opening up new space for the busy children, while providing comfortable respites for their happy parents.
