We endeavored to work closely with the client to design a refined yet singularly styled house that would include ample places from which to experience the rich flora and fauna along the river and in the woods and nearby wetland. The Cottage is reached by strolling across a bridge that spans a restored wetland. A central oval-shaped Dining Room acts as a centering space in the house leading to a Library/Living Room, a spacious Kitchen, an open Office space and a conservatory-covered Craft Room and Laundry. The Office opens to a wrap-around Conservatory to allow full views of the abundant riverlife. A Sunroom is situated underneath a masterful old Oak tree. Upstairs the Master Suite allows for full enjoyment of the scenery with a private screen porch and Master Bath centered under the Oak. The Sky Room opens to a deck with views of the river and the stars. In the lower level lurks a ‘bat cave’, a full-featured video Screening Room, which was spearheaded and in collaboration by the client. The Potrero Residence is the archetype for Architecture Office’s iterative process. Nestled in the Santa Monica mountains and surrounded by avocado farms, our client asked us to design a monumental hilltop home with views facing every direction and an underground ten car garage. We developed three concepts, choosing one developed by modelling a floorplate and populating it with cube forms. Using modelling software, we “sliced” the cubes at different points and rotated them across the plate. Via the interplay of these segmented cubes, this process created unique trapezoidal forms on each floorplate. Each floor in the Potrero residence functions as a unique relationship of forms and voids. In this building, each exterior-facing void⁠—the spaces between the rotated cubes⁠—is either walled with glass to create a floor to ceiling window, or subtracted to create a balcony. These punctures provide each exterior facing room in the house with a panoramic view over a different area of the property. The balconies give this home a variety of lighting conditions throughout the day, sometimes dark and sometimes light, reminiscent of cave dwellings. This design process creates a unique exterior wall across every face of the building. The driveway-facing facade is sculpted to resemble a traditional gable roofed house. Working around the house reveals a much more complex and digitally derived form. In the center of the house, a gem-shaped courtyard offers light within the relatively deep floor plates. Following the form building process, we developed a material solution using cast-in-place, board formed concrete—giving the house a weighty appearance and reinforcing its cave-like volumes. The rotated cube forms create diverse atmospheres within the interior, and singular aesthetic relationships to the exterior environment. Though grand in scale, our design process creates a fundamentally simple form, while the interior’s spatial conditions evoke the comforts of home.

The Lounge Chair by Poul Henningsen. A masterpiece forged by a singular piece of steel tube bent into the most comfortable luxury relaxation chair. One of the nicer things about the Lounge Chair is the way it seems to fit every different room that it gets placed in.

This large estate house was carefully crafted to compliment the rolling hillsides of the Midwest. Horizontal board & batten facades are sheltered by long runs of hipped roofs and are divided down the middle by the homes singular gabled wall. At the foyer, this gable takes the form of a classic three-part archway. Subtle earth-toned wall colors, white trim, and natural wood floors serve as a perfect canvas to showcase patterned upholstery, black hardware, and colorful paintings. Our clients in Swarthmore were looking to upgrade their rear yard. They wanted to increase the space for hosting but were limited with the amount of area they could expand due to township limits. We decided to lower the deck so that the deck and patio felt like a singular area. With a Victorian facade we incorporated old world materials with the new. Add a deer-tolerant but bright planting and you have a very inviting space!

A wide and thin curved plywood panel with a shell shape, distinguishes this innovative seating system. The singularity of the project is the particular downward position of the backrest, partially hiding the seat, and the unique position of the rear legs, which conceals a solid metal structure. The embracing and ergonomic shape, the different with different height versions, available natural or lacquered, makes shell flexible and adaptable to different styles, usable in refined residential projects or public spaces with contemporary taste. Set on Camelback Country Club with sweeping views to the golf course and surrounding peaks—Camelback, Piestewa, and Mummy Mountain—this Paradise Valley estate was designed with one clear priority: make the view the main event. Every line of the pool and landscape plan was meticulously composed to pull your eye outward, enhance the architecture, and create an atmosphere that feels singular to this property. The backyard is anchored by a custom resort-style pool and spa composition that reads like a modern water courtyard—clean geometry, natural stone surfaces, and layered water movement. Bubblers and deck jets add sound and sparkle without interrupting sightlines, while a low-profile fire element and lawn panels soften the hardscape and keep the space feeling livable, not just a showpiece. Beyond the resort core, the property expands into an estate-scale recreation zone, including a full sport court framed in stone paving, structured planting beds, and evening lighting that keeps the grounds active after sunset. The perimeter is finished with privacy hedging and layered plantings—lush, controlled, and intentionally quiet—so the mountains and fairways remain the star. This home set a record-breaking sale, closing $1M higher than any home north of DoubleTree, and it sold in a single day. The developer, builder, and buyer all echoed the same thing: the pool and landscape sold the home, and then the record number followed. It’s the kind of project that proves what we believe: when outdoor living is designed at the highest level, it doesn’t just complement a home—it defines it.

Charming Old World meets new, open space planning concepts. This Ranch Style home turned English Cottage maintains very traditional detailing and materials on the exterior, but is hiding a more transitional floor plan inside. The 49 foot long Great Room brings together the Kitchen, Family Room, Dining Room, and Living Room into a singular experience on the interior. By turning the Kitchen around the corner, the remaining elements of the Great Room maintain a feeling of formality for the guest and homeowner's experience of the home. When our client bought this house, it was stuck in limbo between the traditional interior and a 90's modern structure. The direction we took was a combination of calm beige color scheme with clean lines and smooth surfaces. The continuation of the same materials throughout the house finally bonded all the different spaces into a singular home. The two guest bathrooms were made with Cloe zellige style tiles and custom floating vanities made from white oak. The same oak was used also for the built-in TV wall as floating shelves and base cabinets with a large, tiled center piece for the recessed TV and the electric fireplace. The kitchen also received some of the white oak love in the form of the Island and the recessed cooking area. The biggest issue with the kitchen space was the lack of proportions between the width and its length vs. the extreme height of the vaulted ceiling. The solution I came up with was a secondary line of wall cabinets to be the same depth as the full height units to create a wrap around and make the space more proportionate. Continuing to the master bathroom, here we have a true walk-in master bath suite, no door needed with this size of space. All the walls received porcelain semi slab treatment. (72x36 porcelain tile) a lot of work went into selecting the correct tile pieces to give it the effect of a single slab installation but without the added cost. All fixtures are by Kohler with their fantastic modern gold finish. The result was a perfect flow of calm beige colors and warmth of natural wood throughout.

This project created a singular modern home for clients with two distinct professions; she is an artist; he is a musician. Their directive to Battle Associates was to “design the home of their dreams,” and “make it cool.” As the design evolved, three volumes emerged each with its own individual character. Shapes, materials, and colors reinforced the concept. The “Red Barn” houses a music studio, garage, guest, and children’s bedrooms. The “Industrial” volume is the Art Studio. The “Middle” volume is where the clients live. Each structure has its own set of exterior details, materials, and colors. The three buildings are oriented to maximize views around a man-made pond and a conserved hefty locus tree. Clean, contemporary lines set the tone for the details throughout the project, creating an appropriate environment for displaying artwork. Maple, bamboo, and painted finishes were the predominant palette, complemented with steel and glass for the stairs. Kitchen details favored cut-away pulls instead of hardware. The shell of the entire home was detailed and constructed with a high degree of energy efficiency in mind. Ultra-insulation was the standard with foam panels, triple glazing, and near passive house standards for construction.

This chic, modern design is the crown jewel of this San Antonio community. The outdoor space was designed for luxury entertaining and every element infused with a touch of elegance and functionality. Beginning with the glass-tiled negative edge spa stylishly separating the two swimming areas, to the fire-wall and putting green, followed by the outdoor kitchen area with a gorgeous fire pit, and lastly, the unique spaces that offer multiple areas of entertaining with a sense of privacy. The porcelain decking flows seamlessly from the house and creates a singular space when the vanishing doors are open.

The view to the courtyard promises to be a singular experience.
