White and grey kitchens are timeless designs for homes everywhere. This kitchen, while may be a grey themed kitchen, packs some punches in some design choices. First, they chose a wood countertop for their island to offset their marble countertop. But what we love the most (of course) is our Mod Mosaics tile throughout the kitchen. Mod Mosaics are a great way to continue ones theme of a single color (usually neutral) but then you have the open to throw in some color accents to bring out your spaces personality. This is exactly what these homeowners did--a singular grey color with several other colors interspersed throughout. The result? This is one drool worthy kitchen! This project created a singular modern home for clients with two distinct professions; she is an artist; he is a musician. Their directive to Battle Associates was to “design the home of their dreams,” and “make it cool.” As the design evolved, three volumes emerged each with its own individual character. Shapes, materials, and colors reinforced the concept. The “Red Barn” houses a music studio, garage, guest, and children’s bedrooms. The “Industrial” volume is the Art Studio. The “Middle” volume is where the clients live. Each structure has its own set of exterior details, materials, and colors. The three buildings are oriented to maximize views around a man-made pond and a conserved hefty locus tree. Clean, contemporary lines set the tone for the details throughout the project, creating an appropriate environment for displaying artwork. Maple, bamboo, and painted finishes were the predominant palette, complemented with steel and glass for the stairs. Kitchen details favored cut-away pulls instead of hardware. The shell of the entire home was detailed and constructed with a high degree of energy efficiency in mind. Ultra-insulation was the standard with foam panels, triple glazing, and near passive house standards for construction.

This project features an intelligently shaped trapezoidal pool, perfect for fitting seamlessly into a narrow backyard while retaining a sophisticated feel. The pool's inviting blue tile interior is beautifully contrasted by expansive, light-toned natural stone paving, which defines the generous lounging area. The visual focal point is the raised water feature wall, which is elegantly clad in shimmering teal mosaic tile and topped with coordinating light coping. A singular, bold sheer descent waterfall cascades into the pool, introducing a soothing auditory element and continuous shimmer. The entire sanctuary is framed by lush, mature landscaping that overflows with vibrant greenery and colorful flowers, creating a tropical, secluded atmosphere. The space is completed by contemporary, curved white loungers, offering a stylish spot for sunbathing, transforming this compact area into a truly private and luxurious escape.

Set on Camelback Country Club with sweeping views to the golf course and surrounding peaks—Camelback, Piestewa, and Mummy Mountain—this Paradise Valley estate was designed with one clear priority: make the view the main event. Every line of the pool and landscape plan was meticulously composed to pull your eye outward, enhance the architecture, and create an atmosphere that feels singular to this property. The backyard is anchored by a custom resort-style pool and spa composition that reads like a modern water courtyard—clean geometry, natural stone surfaces, and layered water movement. Bubblers and deck jets add sound and sparkle without interrupting sightlines, while a low-profile fire element and lawn panels soften the hardscape and keep the space feeling livable, not just a showpiece. Beyond the resort core, the property expands into an estate-scale recreation zone, including a full sport court framed in stone paving, structured planting beds, and evening lighting that keeps the grounds active after sunset. The perimeter is finished with privacy hedging and layered plantings—lush, controlled, and intentionally quiet—so the mountains and fairways remain the star. This home set a record-breaking sale, closing $1M higher than any home north of DoubleTree, and it sold in a single day. The developer, builder, and buyer all echoed the same thing: the pool and landscape sold the home, and then the record number followed. It’s the kind of project that proves what we believe: when outdoor living is designed at the highest level, it doesn’t just complement a home—it defines it.

With a desire to stay close to friends and family, the owners of this 1984 home spent several years searching for property near their neighborhood to build a new, more modern, energy-conscious home tailored to their empty-nest lifestyle. They eventually concluded that their current site was the perfect location for them, but the home needed to be updated and reorganized to create fresh, open, unified spaces to comfortably welcome gatherings of family, friends, and guests. Before renovation, the floor plan included small rooms, dedicated hallways, a step-down living room, a heavy and dark corner fireplace, and limited opportunities for natural light and visual connections from space to space. Exterior deck areas were narrow, long, and used infrequently. Primary goals of this project included accessibility of space, more natural light, better connectivity between spaces, and a focus on sustainable performance. The updated main floor plan included the selective removal of walls to reallocate dedicated hall space to usable, open living area. The step-down living room was leveled for full accessibility, safety, furniture flexibility and overall space use. The removal of a half-height wall between the living area and the kitchen created continuity between the spaces. Reorganizing the primary entry and stair and eliminating walls between the entry and dining room created new visual connections between the kitchen and the entry. The new central concrete hearth and fireplace provides a strong, modern focal point for the living area. Large sliding glass doors on each side of the fireplace allow the TV area beyond to be separated from the living area as needed. In several strategic locations, the footprint of the house was expanded to enhance function and flow at the kitchen, dining room, and mudroom. The new outdoor deck area is now large and singular and includes a grille area, dining space and open seating overlooking the newly landscaped pool below. The exterior envelope of the house includes new insulation, siding, and energy-efficient windows, as well as two large roof-mounted solar arrays, to increase thermal performance and to offset energy costs. Inside, the new HVAC system maximizes energy efficiency while using a fraction of its former footprint. As a result, a portion of the former mechanical space was added back to the lower level family room area and expands into a cozy library nook. MMA partnered with the owner’s interior designer and kitchen designer to achieve a softer, contemporary palette of finishes that complement this newly configured, light-filled home.

On the Upper West Side of Manhattan, a transformative renovation project was unfolding as two spacious apartments seamlessly merged into a luxurious, expansive residence. Walls came down, creating an open and flowing layout that embraced the essence of open plan living. The fusion of the two spaces allowed for the creation of a grand living area, adorned with oversized windows that bathed the rooms in natural light. The kitchen which is now a culinary haven, features state of the art appliances and a central island conductive both to cooking and entertaining. Bathrooms were reimagined into private recreates, each with its own charm. This harmonious blending of two large apartments crafted a singular, sophisticated urban dwelling that epitomized the grandeur of New York City living.
