Designed in collaboration with Cameo Kitchens, “Fusion — The Kitchen of Tomorrow” exhibits how technology and design work in perfect harmony. The backsplash is an interactive panel consisting of three HD monitors, which allow multi-functionality: enjoying a favourite scene, Skyping with family and friends, viewing cooking videos or recipes, browsing websites and social media, displaying children’s artwork, or presenting a slideshow of family photos. If sports are the preference, watching three events simultaneously is simple. The raised breakfast bar is made of semi-precious stone, which is backlit with LED panels to complement the luxe high-gloss walnut and white lacquer cabinetry. Interior illumination is activated at a touch of the automated servo drive doors and drawers. The kitchen design won a Luxury Portfolio, “Best of the Best” Award from Robb Report.

Trapezoid shaped site, hill range towards the north and the access road are the elements that form the character that the building takes on. At ground level, two stand-alone blocks taper towards the narrow end of the site; but on the two subsequent floors, the blocks are connected by communal spaces to form a “U” shaped building and creating generous open courtyard between the blocks. Residents are provided with spaces for formal and social activities. The second floor of the communal area features a gym, a small lounge and a plunge pool that overlooks the courtyard and the distant hills. The development is designed to read as a composition of simple lines, framing full height glass and textured finished elements that quietly animate the elevations. The goal of the development is to create a series of townhouses, where the sense of place is strong and expressed with a series of playful interactions between all the dwellings. The building’s facades appear homogeneous with terraces and planes used to highlight each apartment. Zigzagging terraces and stone cladded screen walls are dominant features used in the scheme to echo the ridges and texture of the hills beyond.

Located in the sophisticated yet charming Jackson Square neighborhood of San Francisco, this office inhabits a building that was built in 1907. We used industrial elements brick, glass, steel, wood, brass, and painted concrete, opting for simplicity and utility over adornment. In the same spirit of industrial honesty, plumbing pipes, data, and electrical are left visible in the open ceiling. The layout reflects a new way of working, encourages connectivity, socializing, and pair programming in a combination of interactive open plan areas, floating desks for those who mostly work remote, meeting areas, and collaborative lounge areas. --- Project designed by ballonSTUDIO. The Casual Bellevue Greystone project didn’t come without its hindrances. The first challenge was designing a space that was accommodating to the couple but also their children and grandchildren when visiting. By knocking down a wall and opening up a large portion of the once closed-off kitchen, we were able to make the room a big part of the home. This allowed those in the kitchen to interact and socialize with guests and family in the living room, dining area or library. Additionally, we were tasked with adding a spark of character to the traditional white kitchen. By adding in a pop of color with blue bookcases and dark touches of oak in the hood and kitchen island, our team was able to modernize a classic look. However, keeping the room bright and airy without natural light was an additional hurdle. Placing glass pendants above the island as well as including under-cabinetry lighting helped illuminate the space.

The most unique feature of this design is that the covered bar area is designed to incorporate part of the pool. This allows people socializing at the bar to interact with swimmers in the pool without being baked in the sun. The guests who are interested in bathing in the sun can enjoy the shallow tanning ledge at the opposite end of the pool. An ARDA for Outdoor Living Design goes to Studer Residential Designs, Inc. Depending on your kitchen layout, island sinks can save you space and functionality. One of the main reasons for the main sink in the island is how much time you spend at the sink. If you tend to socialize more in the kitchen while doing tasks, island sinks may be for you! Since this was a family home reno project, a ton of interaction will take place in this area! We made sure to create an inviting space along with Etch Design Group. There was a full gut of the kitchen. This included all cabinetry, countertops, and backsplash. The main focus in this kitchen part of the reno was moving the sink location from the wall to the newly installed island. The new layout included new cabinets painted a beautiful shade of timeless white, on top of those polished Statuario quartz countertops with light veining were installed. These new custom cabinets were customized to the homeowners' specifications for her kitchenware items. Electrically, we installed 6 new LED recessed canned lights and added new outlets to the island to add more lighting in the home.

This perspective showcases the successful integration of the kitchen and dining areas into a single, cohesive great room. The large navy kitchen island with a white quartz countertop serves as a central hub, perfectly positioned to interact with the adjacent dining space and living area. Natural light pours in through the large sliding glass doors, highlighting the natural wood flooring that runs throughout the open floor plan. This design by Better Builders focuses on creating a social, airy environment where the kitchen's modern farmhouse aesthetic—complete with industrial pendant lighting and shaker cabinetry—complements the home's broad architectural lines.

The kitchen is the main eye-catcher in this great room, with natural stone countertops and Miele appliances in stainless steel. The countertop is black quartz that stretches across the length of the entire wall. The island in the middle has double usage; it's a cooking and breakfast island, and the cookery area has both a gas stove and an electric plate cooker. A kitchen hood and pendant lights hang from the ceiling above. Anyone cooking here can enjoy the views outside while interacting and socializing with the people in the room. The sliding glass wall of this great room opens entirely, extending the living area outdoors onto the deck. The extended dining table is perfect for entertaining or enjoying a large meal with family and friends.

The original intent of this project was to replace the island, hood, countertops, and a few appliances. A primary bath remodel was the main priority. But once the couple realized certain features would enhance the functionality of the kitchen – not to mention completely change the aesthetic – they put the master bath on hold and decided to remodel the entire kitchen first. Design objectives: -Omit separate table, plan for a larger island that would seat 7 people -Simple, clean lines – no rounded corners or weird angles -Nothing trendy – use modern classic details -Uncluttered countertops -Better pantry storage for food & small appliances -Integrated major appliances -Coffee bar -Avoid “1 color on perimeter with second color on island” -Integrate a harmonious variety of finishes -Integrate black & handmade metals Design challenges: -Island shape to fit within confines of existing half wall between kitchen & family room & bay window/door to backyard -Narrow kitchen with major walkway -Planning for 7 seats at the island -Keep guest social area away from the cook’s zone -Place appliances according to use -Point-of-use storage for an avid cook within a relatively small space -Integrate colors without looking too busy THE NEW KITCHEN -While the island is mostly rectangular, the seating area utilizes the bay extension without interfering with the exterior door -All seating is placed on the outside perimeter of the island, giving the cook dedicated prep space -The L-shaped seating area & adjacent coffee bar encourage guests to gather on the outside edge of the kitchen where they can still interact with the cook -Island prep space includes 5 feet of versatile drawer storage, double waste basket and an open paper towel dispenser -One pantry designated for food; the other for small appliances & bulk storage; creates visual armoire look -Microwave drawer in island faces refrigerator for easy access & less interference with cook’s zone -Appliance garages avoid clutter on the countertops -Off-white upper cabinets make the kitchen look larger while the black bases offer contrast without closing in the space Once the client committed to remodeling her entire kitchen, she had a good idea of the direction she wanted the space to take. Even so, there were many details that remained open to explore & contemplate. The end result is modern, clean and ultimately transitional – a creative vision anchored in functionality and artistry! A powder room remodel was added to the project that beautifully compliments the kitchen aesthetic. The entire staircase, all trim & doors were painted in the same tones as the kitchen, transforming the entire first floor into a cohesive & welcoming space. It was a great collaborative partnership!
