The homeowners of this old home in Greenwood Village, Colorado wanted two things: a space large enough to hold the dinner and cocktail parties they often hosted for business, and adhering to a strong traditional French design. The hardscape and custom pergolas are the foundation for a large entertaining area large enough for several tables. A Campania International fountain from Birdsall & Co. in a custom-made basin provides the focal point to the dining area. Several levels of retaining walls provide not only symmetry, accentuated by planted cast stone containers and pedestals, but also space for a bocce ball court at the highest level. A built-in barbecue and fire pit surrounding by teak Adirondack chairs make for a more intimate dining and conversation space, balancing out similar 'outdoor rooms' sprinkled throughout the landscape. This family room was created for comfort and leisure. A micro-suede chaise sofa is centered in the space with a serigraph by Leroy Neiman above. An large abstract area rug grounds the seating arrangement while creating a soft area to watch TV. Having an open floor plan it is important to repeat elements from space to space for consistency. The set of marble side tables mimic the design and materiality of the dining table in the space adjacent and orange accents are sprinkled in to coordinate with the color scheme from the foyer through the dining room. This beautiful kitchen is nestled in the heart of a historic home, with great bones, and even better character. The team at Birchview Design set out to create a design that would complement the rich history of the home, while still providing a breath of fresh air into the space. The crisp white cabinetry along the perimeter, paired with contrasting black hardware were the perfect base for stunning Cambria quartz countertops. The artistic veining of the quartz connects beautifully with the textured subway tile and contrasting grout, showcasing the timelessness of the tones. The island, in a warm grey lacquer boasts stunning millwork details, and allows for not only ample working room, but seating for your guests - creating a warm and welcoming environment. The spaciousness is further accentuated by the open concept to the dining area, and the extension of the cabinetry, perfect for serving, storage and display. For us, the cherry on top for any good design is in the accessories. We love how the black fixtures, the white apron sink and the antiques sprinkled throughout complete the look of this modern farmhouse design. The kitchen is the heart of any household, and having a space that is functional, as well as aesthetically pleasing is truly what design dreams are made of.
