Matching cherry cabinets were used to enhance the modified laundry room’s storage space. A stackable Samsung washer and dryer were used to conserve space. A new Hi-macs countertop with integral sink were used for a low maintenance surface. The floor is a 12”x12” porcelain tile with a celery stalk tile strip alternating pattern.

The use of clean materials and gravel helps to marry the countryside with the modern architecture of the country home. Lawn areas and planting beds, full of ornamental grasses, soften the edges, but still have a touch of modern with their erect growing habit and narrow stalk. Cedar deck space is used for lounging.

The use of clean materials and gravel helps to marry the countryside with the modern architecture of the country home. Lawn areas and planting beds, full of ornamental grasses, soften the edges, but still have a touch of modern with their erect growing habit and narrow stalk.

Prior to our start, the Client hired a lawn company to mow the 4 acres that weren't horse pasture. Each week, pasture grasses, which "blade out" at about 6-8", were mowed to 3" All that remained were the stalks. This left the property scalped, brown and heading south. We developed a grass management plan to do several things: increase vigor; green it up; and carve a site composition into the landscape. What you see here blends gorgeously with those mountains beyond. There is no artificial separation. Over time, mowed areas were allowed to grow through the summer, which encouraged seasonal change through naturally-occurring and introduced wildflowers, forbes and shrubs. From spring green up through the autumn, the landscape slowly evolved from dormancy to seas of waving grass embracing the different aspects of the landscape. It was breathtaking. It also significantly reduced lawn maintenance costs.

Believe it or not, the pumpkin is not a vegetable — it’s a fruit, and a berry at that! Along with hardy mums in bright yellow, at Deck and Patio’s design center in Huntington Station, we’ve added lots of these Fall “berries” for pops of bright orange. www.deckandpatio.com

Outside our design center, we have waterfalls flowing from a stream. Deck and Patio added white, yellow and orange mums along the stream’s banks. The full bush of green leaves shown above the yellow mums is a marginal aquatic plant — the clump-forming Iris versicolor. www.deckandpatio.com
