Our clients, who collect and enjoy fine wine, commissioned us to create a dedicated wine storage unit that combined exceptional functionality in an impressive statement piece. The resulting cabinet provides tailored storage and display in a stunning finish that coordinates with the interior décor style of the house. It is built-in to the bespoke floor to ceiling wall panelling we installed in the hallway. The wall panels cleverly conceal cupboard storage for clothing, footwear and other accessories. Creating hidden doors using wooden wall panels adds storage to the entrance hall while maintaining a beautifully, cohesive, streamlined look. This California residence went from dark and dull to modern and bright with the help of Woodcliff Builders designer Jessica Peters. Remodeled with the thought of entertaining guests in mind, form and functionality played equal roles in the design process. Light cream tones wash over the home, punctuated by the bold statement that Banker Wire’s S-12 makes in it’s Antique Brass plated finish. This woven wire mesh pattern catches the eye throughout the kitchen, living room, and bar as various cabinet door infills. The unique texture of S-12 brings balance to the stark contrasting color scheme throughout the kitchen. While the open-concept room boasts predominantly pale features, the highlights of the Antique Brass finish draw out the deeper rich tones in the white marble backsplash and counter tops. The shadows created by the weave of the wire mesh help tie in the dark accents in the kitchen, including the black light fixtures and the oil-rubbed bronze cabinet and drawer hardware. Across from the kitchen, the eye is drawn to the main focal point of the living room, the built-in bookshelves. Banker Wire’s S-12 clads the four central cabinet doors, creating a unique hideaway for television components and other electronics. The Antique Brass finish brings warmth into the otherwise neutral structure, complimented by the displayed curios and the cozy furniture surrounding it. Both the wire mesh and the oil-rubbed bronze hardware are carried over from the kitchen, making for a cohesive home design. In the home’s custom bar, S-12 adorns the front of the ceiling-high white cabinets. For this area, the former cabinet and drawer pulls have been replaced with brass and ivory colored hardware, underscoring the brass of the cabinet’s panel. Emphasized by the dark stone counter-top, the lowlights of the pattern accentuate the texture of the mesh, while the Antique Brass face coordinates with the wood of the lower cabinets, bringing a consistent appearance to the space. “I just love that extra level of detail that this wire mesh provides for cabinets,” states Peters. “It really takes the design to the next level.” The low open area of woven wire mesh pattern S-12 lends itself well to surfacing, cladding, and other applications where partial coverage is key. At 21.6%, only subtle glimpses will be perceptible through the mesh. Embossed and highly faceted, the highs and lows of this distinctive weave are more defined in plated and powder coat finishes, making Antique Brass plating the perfect choice for this residential cabinetry project.

White floors can be challenging to use, but when pulled off correctly are extremely rewarding. An instant statement-maker, they often present the challenge of maintenance. For Nordland, we specifically created a slightly weathered pattern with darker knots, so that they do not reveal dirt as quickly. The most important specification for determining the durability of vinyl flooring is the thickness of the wear-layer. The best wear-layers are made of thick, clear virgin PVC, which covers the paper print-film that gives the floor its unique appearance. Once the wear-layer wears through, the paper is damaged and the floor will need replacement. Most vinyl floors come with a 8-12 mil wear-layer (0.2-3 mm). The top commercial specs in the industry are higher, at 20-22 mil (0.5 mm). A select few manufacturers offer a “super” commercial spec of 28 mil (0.7 mm). For Modin, we decided to set a new standard: 40 mil (1.0 mm) of premium virgin PVC. This allows us to offer an industry-leading 20 year Commercial Warranty (Lifetime Residential), compared to nearly all other commercial vinyl floors’ 10 year Commercial Warranty. Beyond our superior wear-layer, we also use a patented click mechanism for superior hold, and a ceramic-bead coating. SIZE MATTERS Wider and longer planks create a sense of space and luxury. Most vinyl floors come in 6” or 7” widths, and 36” or 48” lengths. For Modin, we designed our planks to be 9” wide, and 60” long. This extra large size allows our gorgeous designs to be fully expressed. DETAILS THAT COUNT We made sure to get all the details right. Real texture, to create the feel of wire-brushed wood. Low sheen level, to ensure a natural look that wears well over time. 4-sided bevels, to more accurately emulate the look of real planks. When added together they help create the unique look that is Modin. DESIGNS THAT INSPIRE We spent nearly a year just focusing on our designs, to ensure they provide the right mix of color and depth. Older homes are filled with charm, but often the kitchen has been overlooked. Originally, it was a work area– not made for public view. Today it truly is the center of all that goes on in the family. Today’s active homeowners are no different. Although their children may be grown, cooking and baking are still considered top priorities. Storage and counter space were issues that needed to be addressed and being aware of the aging process of the kitchen, lighting also needed to be considered. Although the kitchen is only a 13’ X 13’ space, it had other challenges. A back staircase, three doorways, and a large window took away from the wall space, however the 9’ ceilings were an unused potential for storage. Choosing Wellborn’s Select Series Cabinets in a Maple with a sandstone slate finish brightened the space immediately. Stacking the cabinets and taking them all the way to the ceiling gave this homeowner more storage than ever imagined for items of occasional use. Under counter LED Tape lighting brightened the task areas of the kitchen without causing additional heat from too many lights. A new table light on a dimmer sets the right mood for dining and provides just enough additional lighting. Installing a Sharp, stainless steel, 24” microwave drawer freed up some counter space for prep work near the cooktop (a GE, stainless steel 30” gas cooktop with four burners) and next to the sink (a new Elkay Gourmet Double Bowl with aqua DVD). Also, adding a new Kohler Sensate kitchen faucet which is hands free, a Kohler contemporary soap/lotion dispenser and a new ISE 3/4 horsepower disposal– helps to make clean-up a breeze. A new GE dishwasher, a new Broan stainless steel 30” hood, and a new GE 30” double oven both standard oven sizes, not only allows our homeowner to cook dinner and dessert, but the stainless steel reflects light while adding a design element tying the cabinet hardware and light fixture into the overall look. The countertop is Caesarstone’s Dreamy Marfil and is always a bold statement for any size Kitchen. Mixing the backsplash tile up without appearing busy came together with the beautiful combination of Sandlewood polished Amafi 30cm from countertops to base cabinets and Jinsen Coffee Bone in a diamond pattern framed in the Sandlewood polish and a Amafi Pencil liner above the cooktop. The soft addition of a new six panel Pine door stained and finished to match the other doors within the home added to the overall beauty of this stunning kitchen.

This renovation was completed with the primary goal of removed the carpet in the stairs which was not only difficult to clean but constantly looking worn in this very busy household. Ideally they wanted a durable, low maintenance flooring solution that still added character and coziness. The solution: Luxury vinyl planks! The unique and discreet metal nosings we used respect the clean lines and richness of this amazing plank in a non-commercial way. I chose a neutral, linen-striated ceramic tile for the floor which, since we were creating a barrier-free shower, meant I could run this tile into the shower and add a hidden, tiled drain for a continuous, seamless look. This makes the bathroom appear even larger. For interest, I added opulent, large-format, ceramic tiles with a blue- and grey-veined marble pattern trimmed out with metal strips. A grand glass wall separates the wet area from the rest of the bathroom. Controls for the shower were wisely placed at the entrance which also features towel hooks and a towel bar on a coordinating panel of blue marble ceramic tile. The rest of the bathroom received a modern makeover as well with a crisp, custom-built vanity and quartz counter top replacing the old tile counter. Undermount sinks and sculptural hardware sit under modern mirrors with integrated LED lights for maximum light on the face. To top this design off, I chose a glamorous but tailored chandelier with discreet crystal embellishments to infuse sophistication into this sleek, minimalist space. Our clients, who collect and enjoy fine wine, commissioned us to create a dedicated wine storage unit that combined exceptional functionality in an impressive statement piece. It is built-in to the bespoke floor to ceiling wall panelling we installed in the hallway. The wall panels cleverly conceal cupboard storage for clothing, footwear and other accessories. Creating hidden doors using wooden wall panels adds storage to the entrance hall while maintaining a beautifully, cohesive, streamlined look. Bespoke wine cabinet The distinctive tailormade wine cabinet features made to measure wine racks, horizontal bottle holders and shelving. The large doors are made of toughened glass sitting within a solid oak frame.
