The owners were interested in updating their kitchen with design elements that met their needs. Stir fry cooking was at the top of the list for entertainment when friends and family gathered. An extended family that included elderly parents and small children was considered when planning the seating arrangements in the space. We started with an island design that offered integrated seating at standard table height in addition to café height stools. A nine foot high ceiling was lowered over the island and wall cabinets. This allowed for a large ventilation system and added some coziness to the space. Stainless steel appliances along with a matching appliance garage added timeless beauty and function. Honed Black granite counter tops on natural Cherry cabinets soften the overall feel of the room. The addition of Euro style stainless steel hardware helps to pull the whole space together!

The Walls AFTER: After the skim coat and a layer of Benjamin Moore Blue Ice 821, the walls were gallery-worthy. They even inspired me to move a favorite print from the living room to the kitchen. Bonus Solution: Slim Storage: To make up for the lack of counter and storage space. Megan brought in a skinny console table with shelving and added a few whitewashed shelves above it. Now everything is in easy reach, and I have a space to chop, stir, and make my morning café au lait (all of which used to happen on my dining room table). Photos by Lesley Unruh.

A glass and hardwood bridge on the second floor spans the living and dining room. The bridge is held off the interior concrete wall with a stir of glass that allows light to travel up and down.

Do you have a favorite color? This question has not come up since I was 5 years old and it stirred long dormant emotions. Colors are fun and playful.

The new deck was completed with TimberTech skirting around the deck and covered porch. By adding a roof over a portion of the deck, we created a whole new focal point, a dramatic open porch with a ceiling fan to stir up a pleasant breeze on summer evenings. The porch roof features a gable end with a steep slope. It also features an attractive enclosed rafter interior ceiling with cedar tongue and groove boards.

A beautiful backyard patio is framed by Ipe soffit. With a modern ceiling fan stirs the air, creating a cool, comfortable vibe.
