The Interior Design The interior design of this home has a natural feeling to it with earth tones and light woods that brings the outdoors in. To achieve this, a soft, sage green and denim blue were used with a wheat tone to pull in the wood and create a balanced palette. With nearly 14,000 square feet of transparent planar architecture, In Plane Sight, encapsulates — by a horizontal bridge-like architectural form — 180 degree views of Paradise Valley, iconic Camelback Mountain, the city of Phoenix, and its surrounding mountain ranges. Large format wall cladding, wood ceilings, and an enviable glazing package produce an elegant, modernist hillside composition. The challenges of this 1.25 acre site were few: a site elevation change exceeding 45 feet and an existing older home which was demolished. The client program was straightforward: modern and view-capturing with equal parts indoor and outdoor living spaces. Though largely open, the architecture has a remarkable sense of spatial arrival and autonomy. A glass entry door provides a glimpse of a private bridge connecting master suite to outdoor living, highlights the vista beyond, and creates a sense of hovering above a descending landscape. Indoor living spaces enveloped by pocketing glass doors open to outdoor paradise. The raised peninsula pool, which seemingly levitates above the ground floor plane, becomes a centerpiece for the inspiring outdoor living environment and the connection point between lower level entertainment spaces (home theater and bar) and upper outdoor spaces. This project took us a bit off our usual path—and we loved the challenge. It began as a straightforward bid to re-side a local HOA’s swimming pool patio using Hardie stucco panels. But as the scope expanded, so did our role. We were tapped to completely rebuild their bathrooms to meet ADA compliance standards. With no air conditioning in the space, we chose materials built to perform: Hardie stucco sheet paired with Sherwin Williams Rain Refresh Paint throughout. Images by Nic LeHoux Designed as a home and studio for a photographer and his young family, Lightbox is located on a peninsula that extends south from British Columbia across the border to Point Roberts. The densely forested site lies beside a 180-acre park that overlooks the Strait of Georgia, the San Juan Islands and the Puget Sound. Having experienced the world from under a black focusing cloth and large format camera lens, the photographer has a special fondness for simplicity and an appreciation of unique, genuine and well-crafted details. The home was made decidedly modest, in size and means, with a building skin utilizing simple materials in a straightforward yet innovative configuration. The result is a structure crafted from affordable and common materials such as exposed wood two-bys that form the structural frame and directly support a prefabricated aluminum window system of standard glazing units uniformly sized to reduce the complexity and overall cost. Accessed from the west on a sloped boardwalk that bisects its two contrasting forms, the house sits lightly on the land above the forest floor. A south facing two-story glassy cage for living captures the sun and view as it celebrates the interplay of light and shadow in the forest. To the north, stairs are contained in a thin wooden box stained black with a traditional Finnish pine tar coating. Narrow apertures in the otherwise solid dark wooden wall sharply focus the vibrant cropped views of the old growth fir trees at the edge of the deep forest. Lightbox is an uncomplicated yet powerful gesture that enables one to view the subtlety and beauty of the site while providing comfort and pleasure in the constantly changing light of the forest.

From a modest East End bungalow to a striking three-storey custom home — our Dundas St E project was anything but straightforward. When we began demolition, we discovered the house sat on a former landfill site, which created serious structural challenges. Instead of seeing a problem, we saw an opportunity to apply innovative engineering. Our team designed and installed a foundation system using helical piles and structured footings, creating a rock-solid base for the new build. This project proves that no matter how complex the site conditions, smart design and skilled construction can transform challenges into stunning results. The proof? This home sold within two days of hitting the market.

This Buckley home received a full roof replacement using CertainTeed Landmark shingles in Georgetown Gray, giving the 3,300 sq. ft. property a clean, refreshed look. While the project was straightforward, we improved the home’s ventilation by installing 17 new attic vents to support long-term roof performance. After the main installation was complete, we returned to replace the homeowner’s skylight—a standard, roof-safe process that allows for upgrades without compromising the new roofing system. The final result is a durable, well-ventilated roof designed to serve the home for decades.

Ok, this was not as straightforward as you might think. The design process included a balancing act between making the hood/insert combination efficient enough to do it's job (and not so powerful as to cause pressurization issues elsewhere in the house) and not so encroaching on the space that the cook feels constrained. Generally speaking the tendency is to error on the side of making the hood to high and to shallow (from front to back). The whole thing is a rabbit hole in which no one is really providing any definitive answers. That said, the customer is happy with the result. The wall under the hood has not been treated yet. I'll update the pics after it has been.

Our primary objective was to preserve the galley kitchen's current layout while enhancing its spaciousness. We achieved this by opting for matte white cabinets, chosen for their elegant and straightforward appeal. To maintain a clean and seamless look, we included under-cabinet lighting and integrated finger pulls on the cabinet doors, avoiding the need for additional hardware so it gives an even more sophisticated feel by removing excess visuals.

In order to create that hotel feel we designed two identical ensuites with feature LED lighting using our Urban mirror which casts amazing shadows over the ribbed porcelain tiles. We even added a large walk-in shower with concealed valves similar to what you would find in a boutique hotel if you were to be updated to the luxury suite. A wall-mounted WC and vanity unit helped give the illusion that this room was even larger than it was. This bathroom design was very simple, straightforward and without fuss, but due to the high quality of the BAGNODESIGN products an opulent atmosphere was easily achieved.
