Inspired by the Louisiana architecture of A. Hays Town, this project replicates a Louisiana courtyard in the midst of this creekside estate. A pool is the centerpiece of the design, and is anchored by an antique brick clad spa. The spa, strategically placed on the home's main axis, was specifically purposed to replicate a courtyard fountain. The vegetation includes a mixture of trimmed boxwood hedges, ferns, and azaleas, as well as a variety of other broad leafed plants. The potted plants add seasonal interest and year-round decor. This project also features the best in outdoor living. A copper screened cabana house includes an outdoor kitchen, fireplace, and temperature controls for year round comfort. There is an outdoor firepit and seating area, sheltered by a vine covered trellis.

The solution therefore was to create a unique, custom look using IKD Semihandmade’s Agave Supermatte Shaker doors on IKEA’s SEKTION cabinetry framework.Specifically, the custom cabinetry is featured above the custom shelving and the LG washer/dryer combo— ideal for detergent and other cleaning supplies.The custom shelving allows space for display items or other soaps as well, while adding a sense of warmth to the space and is complemented nicely by the quartz countertops (which their contractor sourced from a local colleague). The shaker cabinetry was also continued on the left side of the washer/dryer combo, providing additional storage and the soft, light blue hue is complemented by the white Mustee sink and the Kingston Brass French Country Faucet. That said,the biggest obstacle to completing the laundry room was the available size, Alexandra says. She explains: “It’s a very small space so we had to be very strategic about layout and design. Logistically, the countertop above the washer was the biggest challenge as it needed to be able to lift up in case the washer ever needed to be serviced.” Another issue was that since the laundry room is on the second floor, it was code that it sits in a custom pan. “The pan made it impossible to simply pull the machine out from underneath the countertop so our contractor installed a hinge on the back on the countertop,” she says. “It all ended up working perfectly!” she says.

This large expanse of lawn needed a major make over. Designer added many color full water wise shrubs, ornamental grasses and perennials. Took out 85% of existing lawn and added a new patio, steps, garden with grow boxes and strategic screens too. Located in the Uptown area of Dallas, this modern townhome features a new outdoor living area providing a private retreat for an owner retreat and entertaining. The space includes an outdoor cooking area, dining, fountain, built-in seating area and linear fire pit.

Lisa Konz Photography This was such a fun project working with these clients who wanted to take an old school, traditional lake house and update it. We moved the kitchen from the previous location to the breakfast area to create a more open space floor plan. We also added ship lap strategically to some feature walls and columns. The color palette we went with was navy, black, tan and cream. The decorative and central feature of the kitchen tile and family room rug really drove the direction of this project. With plenty of light once we moved the kitchen and white walls, we were able to go with dramatic black cabinets. The solid brass pulls added a little drama, but the light reclaimed open shelves and cross detail on the island kept it from getting too fussy and clean white Quartz countertops keep the kitchen from feeling too dark. There previously wasn't a fireplace so added one for cozy winter lake days with a herringbone tile surround and reclaimed beam mantle. To ensure this family friendly lake house can withstand the traffic, we added sunbrella slipcovers to all the upholstery in the family room. The back screened porch overlooks the lake and dock and is ready for an abundance of extended family and friends to enjoy this beautiful updated and classic lake home.

The woodland setting of Innovation House is the perfect backdrop to this tailored and spacious master retreat. A wall full of windows looks out onto the property’s babbling creek and tall Georgia pines. When natural light isn’t filling the space, strategically placed can lights on the room’s 12 foot high layered soffits cast the perfect glow onto the room’s sleek pieces. With the European sophistication of a 5-star resort, the room is outfitted with an off white upholstered head board flanked by long, stone topped end tables and iron lamps. Graphic single-panel drapery panels hang on the outside of the windows to add further visual interest and weight to the bed wall. A casual sitting area complete with matching upholstered ottomans and a handmade steel and wood coffee table provides another area for relaxation in this master retreat. The right side of the master bedroom leads into the gracious, spa-like ensuite bathroom and out onto the private screened porch where homeowners can enjoys their coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening while listening to the creek. The exterior façade of the home is reminiscent of the 50’s with its mixed material aesthetic. The stacked stone veneer is complimented with the Shou Sugi Ban siding. The burned wood finish is an ancient Japanese technique that chars the wood, essentially wrapping it in carbon, adding protection and durability against mold, insects, and moisture related decay. This impressive burned wood finish is not only an indelible product but eye-catching as well. The horizontal and vertical orientation of the wood planks further emphasize the width and height of the structure. The subtle play of each material is simplistic and functional. The home is able to take full advantage of views with the use of Glo’s A7 triple pane windows and doors. The energy-efficient series boasts triple pane glazing, a larger thermal break, high-performance spacers, and multiple air-seals. The large picture windows frame the landscape while maintaining comfortable interior temperatures year-round. The strategically placed operable windows throughout the residence offer cross-ventilation and a visual connection to the sweeping views of Utah. The modern hardware and color selection of the windows are not only aesthetically exceptional, but remain true to the mid-century modern design.

Eye-Land: Named for the expansive white oak savanna views, this beautiful 5,200-square foot family home offers seamless indoor/outdoor living with five bedrooms and three baths, and space for two more bedrooms and a bathroom. The site posed unique design challenges. The home was ultimately nestled into the hillside, instead of placed on top of the hill, so that it didn’t dominate the dramatic landscape. The openness of the savanna exposes all sides of the house to the public, which required creative use of form and materials. The home’s one-and-a-half story form pays tribute to the site’s farming history. The simplicity of the gable roof puts a modern edge on a traditional form, and the exterior color palette is limited to black tones to strike a stunning contrast to the golden savanna. The main public spaces have oversized south-facing windows and easy access to an outdoor terrace with views overlooking a protected wetland. The connection to the land is further strengthened by strategically placed windows that allow for views from the kitchen to the driveway and auto court to see visitors approach and children play. There is a formal living room adjacent to the front entry for entertaining and a separate family room that opens to the kitchen for immediate family to gather before and after mealtime.
