“We could never have envisioned what could be” – Steiner Ranch Homeowner and Client It is an especially fulfilling Project for an Interior Designer when the outcome exceeds Client expectations, and imagination. This remodeling project required instilling modern sensibilities, openness, styles and textures into a dated house that was past its prime. Strategically, the goal was to tear down where it made sense without doing a complete teardown. Starting with the soul of the home, the kitchen, we expanded out room by room to create a cohesiveness and flow that invites, supports and provides the warmth and relaxation that only a home can. In the Kitchen, we started by removing the wooden beams and adding bright recessed lighting. We removed the old limestone accent wall and moved the sink and cooktop from the island on to the countertop – the key goal was to create room for the family to gather around the kitchen. We replaced all appliances with modern Energy Star ones, along with adding a wine rack. The first order of business for the Living Room was to brighten it up by adding more lighting and replacing an unused section with a glass door to the backyard. Multi-section windows were replaced with large no-split glass overlooking the backyard. Once more, the limestone accent was removed to create a clean, modern look. Replacing the dated wooden staircase with the clean lines of a metal, wire and wooded staircase added interest and freshness. An odd bend in the staircase was removed to clean things up. The Master Bedroom went from what looked like a motel room with green carpet and cheap blinds to an oasis of luxury and charm. A section of the wraparound doors were closed off to increase privacy, accentuate the best view from the bedroom and to add usable space. Artwork, rug, contemporary bed and other accent pieces brought together the seamless look across the home. The Master Bathroom remodel started by replacing the standard windows with a single glass pane that enhanced the view of the outdoors. The dated shower was replaced by a walk-in shower and soaking tub to create the ultimate at-home spa experience. Lighted LED mirrors frame His & Hers sinks and bathe them in a soft light. The flooring was upgraded throughout the house to reflect the contemporary color scheme. Each of the smaller bedrooms were similarly upgraded to match the clean and modern décor of the rest of the house. After such a transformation inside, it was only appropriate that the exterior needed an upgrade as well. All of the legacy limestone accents were replaced by stucco and the color scheme extended from the interior of the house to the gorgeous wrap around balconies, trim, garage doors etc. to complete the inside outside transformation.

Furthermore, it was critical to balance voluminous spaces designed for entertainment with more intimate settings for daily living while maintaining harmonic flow throughout. The result home is wide, approached by a winding drive terminating at a prominent facade embracing the motor court. Stone walls feather grade to the front façade, beginning the masonry theme dressing the structure. A second theme of true Pennsylvania timber-framing is also introduced on the exterior and is subsequently revealed in the formal Great and Dining rooms. Timber-framing adds drama, scales down volume, and adds the warmth of natural hand-wrought materials. The Great Room is literal and figurative center of this master down home, separating casual living areas from the elaborate master suite. The lower level accommodates casual entertaining and an office suite with compelling views. The rear yard, cut from the hillside, is a composition of natural and architectural elements with timber framed porches and terraces accessed from nearly every interior space flowing to a hillside of boulders and waterfalls. The result is a naturally set, livable, truly harmonious, new home radiating old world elegance. This home is powered by a geothermal heating and cooling system and state of the art electronic controls and monitoring systems. The roof is simulated slate made from recycled materials. Inspiration for a transitional open concept family room remodel in Detroit

A master suite was added onto this idyllic farmhouse located in Fountain Inn, SC near Greenville. The addition provided a master suite on the main level of the home with a vaulted master bedroom with clerestory dormer windows, vaulted master bathroom with a central freestanding tub set in a framed alcove in front of a gorgeous picture window and crowned with a shimmering chandelier. An oversized marble tile shower with glass enclosure, tile niches and a bench seat flanks the tub on one side and is opposite and enclosed water closet with transom lites. Separate sink vanities allow for comfort and a seated make-up vanity is perfectly placed at the window for natural lighting. The hall leading to the master bathroom retreat is flanked by separate walk-in closets and has recessed pocket doors with transom lites. The suite has it's own vestibule providing the perfect transition area and access to the new study and half bath. The study was once part of a wrap-around porch and still benefits from the existing stone veneer chimney that was intentionally left exposed. The vaulted, yet intimate space is perfect for relaxing, reading, watching tv and conducting business. A paneled trophy wall adorns the wall opposite the stone chimney and provides a home for hunting trophies and cherished works of art. The powder room has a beautiful rustic barn door with circular saw marks and forged door hardware. A decorative open vanity with vessel sink and beaded chandelier add character and class. Not only did the entire room get an aesthetic upgrade, but the functionality was bumped up more than I even thought possible in this 10' x 9'. She now has more storage, a work space and a mirror to get ready for a busy tween life. The Whitehall Penthouse Suite, winner of the Best Suite 2012 in the Hotel Design Awards, is designed with those who wield power and influence in mind, reserved grandeur shall we say. With dark limed oak panelling and red-leather-panelled bookshelves, the lounge and study have the genteel elegance of a refined gentlemen’s club, albeit with light contemporary touches. On the upper turreted floor, the king-sized bed stands on a sumptuous rug surrounded by the dark stained oak floor, tinted with a light lime wash. The bathroom features a walk-in shower encased in Nero Marquina stone and a bespoke Apaiser stone bathtub, with flooring formed from three varieties of marble. Outside, on the private terrace with views towards Whitehall and Big Ben, a giant chess set provides a diversion from the affairs of state or business. Worldly charm, statesman worthy luxury.

See this beautiful young family's home in Murphy come to life. Once grey and mostly monochromatic, we were hired to bring color, life and purposeful functionality to several spaces. A family study was created to include loads of color, workstations for four, and plenty of storage. The dining and family rooms were updated by infusing color, transitional wall decor and furnishings with beautiful, yet sustainable fabrics. The master bath was reinvented with new granite counter tops, art and accessories to give it some additional personality. Our most recent update includes a multi-functional teen hang out space and a private loft that serves as an executive’s work-from-home office, mediation area and a place for this busy mom to escape and relax.

To the manor born… or at least it will feel like it in this elegant yet easygoing French Country home designed by Visbeen Architects with a busy family who wants the best of the past and the present in mind. Drawn from both French and English traditional architecture, this two-story 5,463-square-foot home is a pleasing and timeless blend of two perennially popular styles. Driving up the circular driveway, the home’s front façade impresses with its distinctive details, including a covered porch, iron and stone accents, a roofline with multiple peaks, large windows and its central turret capping two bay windows. The back is no less eye-catching, with a series of large central windows on all three floors overlooking the backyard, two private balconies and both a covered second-floor screen porch and an open-air main-level patio perfect for al fresco entertaining. There’s magic on the inside too. The expansive 2,900-square-foot main level revolves around a welcoming two-story foyer with a grand curved staircase that leads into the rest of the luxurious yet not excessive floor plan.
