The journey to creating Promise Lane was marked by a commitment to detail and excellence, epitomized by the design of the home's entrance. This wasn't just any entrance; it was conceived as a covered balcony, a welcoming embrace to all who approached, characterized by a special timber frame beam that spoke volumes of the project's architectural integrity and aesthetic ambition. This design choice was not merely functional; it was symbolic, representing a gateway to innovation and sustainable living.
The special timber frame beam, chosen for its robustness and visual appeal, became the cornerstone of this unique entrance. It supported not just the physical structure of the covered balcony but also the philosophical foundation of the entire project. The careful selection of timber, known for its durability and beauty, reflected a deeper appreciation for natural materials and a commitment to utilizing resources that complement the environment rather than detract from it.
Beyond the beam, every part of the entrance was meticulously planned and executed. The attention to detail was paramount, from the selection of joinery that would ensure longevity and resist the elements, to the precise angles of the balcony that maximized the view while providing shelter and comfort. This entrance was designed to be more than a mere threshold; it was an invitation to a space where design and nature coalesce, where every detail contributes to a harmonious whole.
The covered balcony, with its timber frame, serves as a serene lookout and a symbol of the home’s open-armed welcome. It’s a space that invites reflection, offering views of the surrounding landscape while standing as a testament to the craftsmanship and vision that define the Promise Lane project. Here, the fusion of traditional materials with modern design principles creates a timeless aesthetic that resonates with the values of sustainability and innovation that Happy Healthy Home holds dear.
As the family who now resides in this house steps onto the covered balcony, they are enveloped in the craftsmanship and thoughtfulness that the entrance embodies. This space, with its special timber frame beam and attention to every detail, is more than an architectural feature; it is a manifestation of the care, creativity, and commitment that went into creating a home that is truly a haven, promising a future where design, sustainability, and beauty are in perfect harmony.

Recently, TaskRabbit challenged a group of 10 Taskers to build a Tiny House in the middle of Manhattan in just 72 hours – all for a good cause.
Building a fully outfitted tiny house in 3 days was a tall order – a build like this often takes months – but we set out to prove the power of collaboration, showing the kind of progress that can be made when people come together, bringing their best insights, skills and creativity to achieve something that seems impossible.
It was quite a week. New York was wonderful (and quite lovely, despite a bit of rain), our Taskers were incredible, and TaskRabbit’s Tiny House came together in record time, due to the planning, dedication and hard work of all involved.
A Symbol for Change
The TaskRabbit Tiny House was auctioned off with 100% of the proceeds going to our partner, Community Solutions, a national nonprofit helping communities take on complex social challenges – issues like homelessness, unemployment and health inequity – through collaboration and creative problem solving. This Tiny House was envisioned as a small symbol of the change that is possible when people have the right tools and opportunities to work together. Through our three-day build, our Taskers proved that amazing things can happen when we put our hearts into creating substantive change in our communities.
The Winning Bid
We’re proud to report that we were able to raise $26,600 to support Community Solutions’ work. Sarah, a lovely woman from New Hampshire, placed the winning bid – and it’s nice to know our tiny home is in good hands.
#ATinyTask: Behind the Scenes
The Plans
A lot of time and effort went into making sure this Tiny Home was as efficient, cozy and welcoming as possible. Our master planners, designer Lesley Morphy and TaskRabbit Creative Director Scott Smith, maximized every square inch in the little house with comfort and style in mind, utilizing a lofted bed, lofted storage, a floor-to-ceiling tiled shower, a compost toilet, and custom details throughout. There’s a surprising amount of built-in storage in the kitchen, while a conscious decision was made to keep the living space open so you could actually exist comfortably without feeling cramped.
The Build
Our Taskers worked long, hard shifts while our team made sure they were well fed, hydrated and in good spirits. The team brought amazing energy and we couldn’t be prouder of the way they worked together. Stay tuned, as we’ll be highlighting more of our Tiny House Taskers’ stories in coming days – they were so great that we want to make sure all of you get to know them better.
The Final Product
Behold, the completed Tiny House! For more photos, be sure to check out our Facebook page.
This was an incredibly inspiring project, and we really enjoyed watching the Tiny House come to life right in the middle of Manhattan. It was amazing to see what our Taskers are capable of, and we’re so glad we were able to support Community Solutions and help fight homelessness, unemployment and health inequity with #ATinyTask.

A rustic contemporary look that gives a dramatic flair to your home this design serves as a piece of art in itself. It features gorgeous butterscotch onyx shades that emit a romantic glow and sweeping wrought iron metal bands that add visual interest. Onyx is a mottled quartz that takes a high polish. This space transformation was small but has inspired many! ?? This non-profit location which houses hundreds of women and children includes a chapel where they gather for church, prayer, meetings and more. The hallway/lobby leading up to it was dark, outdated and uninspiring. I was challenged with creating a welcoming and visually appealing space while excluding anything that could be damaged/detached.
Growing up in the church, I’ve always had a spiritual admiration for stained glass windows. Historically, they’ve been used to help tell stories of the Bible. Also, the light that passes through stained glass windows is often seen as a symbol of the divine light of God. This light can represent many different things, such as hope, truth, love, and life. It’s also a symbol of Christ himself, as he is often referred to as the “Light of the World.” ✝️??
This inspired my vision to create a stained glass window effect in combination with the mission’s lantern logo and brand colors. It is a direct reflection of how their services continue to reach thousands and change their lives forever.??✨
We had the low wall demolished and space re-painted. The final touch will be a salvaged and refinished old church pew that will provide extra seating here for guests.

Why are cauldrons still represented today with Halloween and magic?
The reason is that cauldrons are a symbolic shape and tool. They represent the energy of the Divine Feminine. The shape is round and nurturing and represents that good things come from within, symbolizing the womb within the woman, where life takes root and grows. The cauldron is similar to a chalice, (a round cup to gather energy), which is also a representation of the holy grail.

Stressless Reno – a symbol of comfort

Antique doors, Old Indian Haveli doors were handmade with raw woods, thick solid teak columns and the lintel that joined the column were carved with old world symbols of an urn that symbolizes prosperity. Bringing in the water element with the wood element is nurturing and leads to growth. The blue patina on the doors gives a feel of the oceans and seas that are more a part of the Mother Earth itself. The principles of the five elements are everywhere around us, we have to be open to their energies to learn from them.

KOI carp is a recurring symbol of Japanese culture, highly appreciated by its decorative purposes, not only in water gardens but also in Irezumi practice or, most commonly, in tattoos. Its natural colour mutations reveal their capacity to adapt, just like the KOI bathtub that you can use to create a better sense of space division in your ambiences. The KOI scales that compose the panels of the bathtub shine and reflect – on its brass surface – the sun caught throughout the clear water. KOI and the Japanese word for love or affection are homophones, making the carp also a symbol of love and friendship.

Oak trees have been a symbol of strength for a long time. They are also known to live for a very long time, given the right conditions. The reason they became a symbol of strength is because they themselves are very strong and are able to survive some of the harshest storms, when healthy. The wood it produces is undoubtedly very strong as well and is commonly used in the making of furniture, homes, and boats.
Oak trees are not only used for their strong wood, but also for their beauty. There are even certain species that produce distinctive lobed leaves, allowing them to stand out. Then, when fall comes around, they become even more majestic when their leaves turn bright and brilliant colours that add texture and a unique spectacle to the changing environment.
The beauty is so amazing that you might even want one for your own yard. Our team here at Five Star Tree Services is going to go over a few different types of oak trees that might be perfect for your landscape! These are guaranteed to have spectacular fall colours, great shade, and amazing texture.
Different Types of Oaks
You might be interested to know that oaks are one of the oldest trees in the world. Archeologists have been able to date them back to around 65 million years ago. A healthy oak can even live to about 200-300 years old. But do you know where these big trees come from? Little tiny acorns. A single oak tree is able to produce roughly 10 million acorns over the course of its lifetime.
Not only are oak trees beneficial to people but they are also great for animals. They are able to support more than 500 moth and butterfly species, which is more than other native trees can do. Insects also like to find homes in oak trees, which helps to feed the birds. Not to mention that small animals like squirrels also can utilize them for things like food, shade, and shelter. They also help larger animals, such as the white-tailed deer, who eats the acorns during the fall and winter season, which is about 75% of their diets.
Around the world, you can find more than 600 species of oak trees. Let’s go over a small handful of our favourites that are great for providing dazzling colourful displays during the fall months, when the leaves change colours. These are going to range from bronzes, to golds, to reds, and everything in between.
Black Oak
It might be apparent that the name comes from the outward appearance from the almost black bark that you see, along with the deep orange or yellow inner bark of the tree. Being quite a statement tree, you can enjoy the green glossy leaves in the summer and then enjoy them again then they turn orange and red in the fall. This tree has a tendency to look very similar to a red oak, but one of the major differences is that black oaks are a little smaller and are able to tolerate drier soil conditions.
Specifications:
-Growing Zones: 3-9
-Sun Tolerance: Full sun, which can equate to 6 hours of uninterrupted sunlight each day
-Soil: Needs slightly acidic, well-drained, and rich soil
-Growing height: 50-60 feet
White Oak
This oak tree is great for shade and can easily be spotted by the light colour of its bark. During the spring, it comes out with pinkish leaves that later on turn to dark green. The leaves of this tree are 4-9 inches long, have 7-9 lobes, and turn reddish-brown in the fall.
Specifications:
-Growing Zone: 3-9
-Sun Tolerance: Full sun, which can equate to 6 hours of uninterrupted sunlight each day
-Soil: Needs to be planted in well drained and slightly acidic soil
-Growing Height: 80 feet
Red Oak
This oak doesn’t have its name for nothing. It offers the brightest red leaves out of all the oak trees. In the fall, the leaves turn a beautiful deep red. During the summer, it has glossy green leaves and an open canopy. This is a widely adaptable tree and it also grows much faster than other oaks.
Specifications:
-Growing Zone: 3-9
-Sun Tolerance: Full sun, which can equate to 6 hours of uninterrupted sunlight each day
-Soil: Needs to be plated in slightly acidic, moist, but well-drained soil
-Growing Height: 50-75 feet
Bur Oak
One of the defining features of this tree is that it has unique acorns. They are larger than other trees and are fringed. It grows in a round shape that is dense with leaves, offering lovely shade and is able to tolerate heat stress and pollution. In the fall the leaves of this oak tree can turn either yellow/green, muted yellow, or yellow/brown.
Specifications:
-Growing Zones: 3-8
-Sun Tolerance: Full sun, which can equate to 6 hours of uninterrupted sunlight each day
-Soil: Needs neutral to alkaline soil
-Growing Height: 60-80 feet
Pin Oak
Typically found along rivers in eastern and central US, this oak tree’s unique feature is its distinctive branching pattern. It has large leaves that are pointed with sweeping U-shaped spaces between lobes. The leaves in the fall turn a scarlet red and eventually become bronze later in the fall.
Specifications:
-Growing Zone: 4-8
-Sun Tolerance: Full sun, which can equate to 6 hours of uninterrupted sunlight each day
-Soil: Needs slightly acidic soil. Can tolerate wet and heavy clay soils
-Growing Height: 60-70 feet
Live Oak
These are not usually super tall but they do have winding and spiraling branches which have the ability to grow into a massive diameter, larger than other oak trees, and this helps to provide a large area of shade. Another special thing about this particular type of tree is that it is the only evergreen, not a deciduous tree like the rest. This specific oak tree is one of the strongest and was used in colonial times for making ships in the US Navy. The glossy leathery leaves on this tree are 1-3 inches long and are dark green with lighter green underneath, which lasts during the entire winter.
Specifications:
-Growing Zone: 8-11
-Sun Tolerance: Full sun, which can equate to 6 hours of uninterrupted sunlight each day
-Soil: Needs to be planted in slightly acidic soil
-Growing Height: 40-80 feet

Lemon Remodeling Earns Diamond Certified®!
Scores Highest in Quality in Local Service Company Customer Satisfaction Study
Lemon Remodeling a design and build construction business in the bay area, has been awarded the prestigious Diamond Certified symbol after being rated highest in quality in ongoing customer satisfaction ratings performed by American Ratings Corporation.
In order to earn Diamond Certified, a local service company must apply to be rated by American Ratings Corporation (ARC) and pass each step of its twelve-step rating and certification process. ARC actually pulls a random sample of past customers from the applicant company’s files and surveys typically 100 customers by telephone. Not only do the customers rate the applicant company on a 1 to 10 scale for quality, but also they indicate their willingness to return or refer other consumers to the company. Most companies can’t pass the rating because a customer satisfaction survey score of greater than 90 on a 100 scale is required. In addition, ARC verifies liability and workers’ compensation insurance, state license status, complaint status, business practices, financial stability and legal judgment status. Additionally, ongoing customer satisfaction surveys are conducted to ensure the Diamond Certified Company is maintaining its high customer satisfaction.
“Our entire team at Lemon Remodeling is pleased to earn this prestigious award. And, it is especially gratifying because it’s based on our customers’ perception of our quality,” said the owner of Lemon Remodeling and Services.
“Personally, I’ve been focused on rating local service companies for the past 20 years and I’m always impressed at how certain organizations are so focused on satisfying their customers. Your Company Name is one of those special companies,” said the Founder and CEO of American Ratings Corporation.
