We refinished these oak kitchen cabinets in Fairport for a finish that's smoother than factory. After masking the whole kitchen, we primed the wood with a shellac-based primer to seal it and block tannin bleed. Then we did something most painting companies skip: we grain-filled the oak. Filling the open grain is slow, tedious work, but it's the only way to get rid of that ribbed wood texture showing through the paint. We finished by spraying Sherwin-Williams Gallery Series waterborne topcoat, a professional-grade cabinet finish that meets the kitchen cabinet industry's standards for hardness and durability. This chandelier recalls the early days of electric home lighting when rooms had one wall outlet and a single central ceiling connection. With no wall switches, this screaming 5 bulb fixture had tedious pull chain switches on each socket. Happily, those relic sockets have been replaced by a single wall switch and five new switchless sockets. The chandelier has been totally rewired including a ground wire for safety and durability, while preserving the authentic vintage copper and brass appearance. The lamp is in very good condition with age appropriate mars and scratches, but no major dents. 40-watt flame bulbs are included. 20-inch drop from ceiling to bottom of glass shades. 12-inch diameter of center hub and 20 inches across the shades.

Placed on a large site with the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy at the rear boundary, this one story residence presents a modest, composed public façade to the street while opening to the rear yard with two wings surrounding a large loggia or “outdoor living room.” With its thick walls, overhangs, and ample cross ventilation, the project demonstrates the simple idea that a building should respond carefully to its environment. Inspiration for a contemporary living room remodel in New York

2018 HNA Awards Honorable Mention - Concrete Paver - Residential (size more than 3,000 sf) Contractor: Heath Landscaping Producer: Eagle Bay Hardscapes The client wanted everything to flow well, so rather than using sand to fill the gaps between the pavers and the natural stone, each paver was ground to fit perfectly. The result is a seamless transition between natural elements and pavers. The quality-over-quantity approach helps show that craftsmanship is extremely important. It sets this project apart and shows the client that a certain level of care is ensured. This project was completed using Chatham Natural, Chatham XL, BrikStone and EssexStone. The homeowner owns and frequently uses a lot of heavy equipment, so the foundation of the paver system was given much attention. There are 8-12 inches of base, focused on durability. This outdoor area was EssexStone in the Bull Run color. The homeowners have plans for an outdoor kitchen made entirely of natural stone, so this project has been completed in phases. The custom-shaping of the pavers made the installation process tedious.

When a client with an attached ADU asked me to remodel the tired 1990s bathroom, I looked to her love of nature and sparkle to create what I call “The Birds and the Bees Bathroom.” She wanted the tub-shower combo removed in favor of a curbless walk-in shower so I took advantage of this change to use a focal point as an anchor for the now-barrier free shower at the end of the room. I chose a large porcelain mural reminiscent of lyrical botanical illustrations from the early 1900s, complete with birds perched on colorful flowering branches. My client fell in love with a dimensional glass tile in the shape of a honeycomb in an equally honey-colored hue—a reference to life-giving bees—which I used to frame the mural and line the shower niche. The shower walls are clad with porcelain tiles that mimic the look of Cloud Onyx without the tedious maintenance such a fragile stone requires. The easy-care porcelain tiles on the floor look like plank wood and lend an organic sense, and are complimented by the rich wood vanity. The end result is like showering in a bright, fresh garden! The Petal House undertook an extensive alteration by renowned architect Eric Owen Moss in 1982. His vision was deconstructivist design. Our main focus was to stay true to the home's quirkiness. We kept the original blue and pink tiles that Mr. Moss installed years ago. The demolition of the space was very tedious. The tiles were non replaceable since they were from 1982 and Italian. We wanted to modernize and update the feel of this 20' x 5' space. We used white large profile 24"x 24" tiles for the floor and most of the shower, small white mosaic for the shower pan, and used a 6" x 6" tile that married the both sides together. We were able to reuse all her lighting and tp holders. We lowered the shower curb, raised the ceilings, and installed etched glass shower doors. We designed and installed custom vanities with a pure white quartz counters. We added new red faucets, and round red towel accessories. We love how it turned out. It is clean, modern, and we stayed true to the vision
