Inspiration for a contemporary living room remodel in New York

With curvaceous arms and a classic camelback frame, our sophisticated Penelope Settee pays tribute to its Napoleon III predecessors. We’ve added to that antique elegance with turned front legs, antique brass casters and rows of antique brass nailheads. With a low, deep seat and a firm back, our Penelope Settee is more suited to lounging than its refined appearance might have you think. Perfect as a focal point in a small living room, we're also picturing Penelope as a banquette in a formal dining room.

A tribute to modern architecture, designed by Lee Skolnick, this home resides on fourteen acres in Sag Harbor, NY. Kristen Elizabeth Design joined the team to advise on all interior design elements from surfaces to furnishings and create a modern, minimal vibe while maintaining a warmth that says home. We worked with the clients to blend treasured family heirlooms with styles that are trend forward, but timeless in design. Furnishings and textiles are neutral and softly hued and rooms are fluidly linked with old and new. The vision was to break out of the comfortable traditional style they were accustomed to and build outside their comfort zone with a modern and minimal vibe. Kristen Elizabeth Design worked with the clients to keep them focused on materials and styles that are trend forward, but timeless in design. Furnishings and textiles provide soft color and pattern.

This young Toronto family wanted a showpiece backyard, so elected to build this very unique "perimeter overflow" zero edge pool. The surface of the pool is at the same level as the deck. Water on all four sides flows over the tiled one-foot-wide pool wall and is collected for re-circulation in a massive reservoir located below the deck. The pool's black Armourcoat interior and 2" spill wall tiles contrast beautifully with the Pennsylvania slate coping and deck. A stunning tribute to minimal design. (11 x 32, custom rectangular)

The owners of this beautiful home have a strong interest in the classic lodges of the National Parks. MossCreek worked with them on designing a home that paid homage to these majestic structures while at the same time providing a modern space for family gatherings and relaxed lakefront living. With large-scale exterior elements, and soaring interior timber frame work featuring handmade iron work, this home is a fitting tribute to a uniquely American architectural heritage.

Love and memories live on in this touching kitchen remodel. Our client had a coffee mug collection of her late husbands that she wanted to somehow incorporate into her kitchen. We enlisted the help of an artisan to create a mosaic using pieces of the coffee mugs. The inspiration for the design was the place he proposed to her, the Eiffel Tower. If she ever decides to move, the mosaic can be removed and taken with her. It was such a pleasure and honor to be apart of this touching tribute! Photo: Pete Eckert

THE BIRDHOUSE The San Rafael hills overlooking Richardson Bay are the home to our creative clients, a successful corporate executive and her sculptor husband. Their beautiful home called out for a second unit to house a caretaker family and the solution is a tribute to the sculptor’s inspiring work. Contrasting yet complimenting the original home, the “birdhouse” lives in the midst of the hillside woods and its lines are both modern and warm. The split-level geometry packs a gracious amount of living space into a small and clever container while the exterior celebrates our clients’ wit and whimsy.

This memorial garden is a tribute to a beloved son, friend, and brother who tragically passed away from a fatal overdose. The garden is intended to be a serene and uplifting space where friends and family can come to reflect and remember him. This garden’s purpose is to celebrate Beau’s life and personality, offering comfort and peace without focusing heavily on the aspect of loss.

A dark kitchen design is sure to turn heads. With deep, striking tones of black and brown bringing a powerful edge and deep definition, it certainly has an impact. The darker palette could give an inviting atmosphere, perfect for quieter evenings with friends or that passionate family meal. Alison Sigethy's Sea Core Bubble Tubes are her artistic tribute to the beauty and mystery of the sea. She handcrafts each component out of glass and calls them Sea Cores because they are inspired by the core samples scientists take to study and monitor the oceans. The building is set in green surroundings, amongst regional fruit trees, plants from Asia and Europe – a tribute to the brand's international presence. The design is based on the idea of a campus, a free area without fences and barriers, in which the different buildings – the administrative building, the heating plant, the former sawmill and the collection point – are ensconced. Older buildings that are no longer used will either be converted or torn down to gain as much visual free space as possible.
