Welcome to this sophisticated kitchen full of grey tones. The perimeter is a soft white with a grey brushstroke while the island is a rich grey with an onyx brushstoke. The contrast is subtle and beautiful. This is a 48" Wolf range and two sub zero tower refrigeration units. One a freezer one a refrigerator. Glass doors cabinets are lit up and show off some family coins treasured by the family.
The butlers pantry shines bright and adds to the elegance of the kitchen. Photographs by Mike Kaskel. Cabinets by Decora Elite

In this 1905 Tudor home, the intent of this design was to take advantage of the classic architecture of the home and incorporate modern conveniences.
Located in the Joseph Berry Subdivision in Detroit, this stellar home presented several design challenges. The most difficult challenge to overcome was the 11” slope from one end of the kitchen to the other, caused by 110 years of settling. All new floor joists were installed and the floor by the side door was then recessed down one step. This created a cozy nook when you first enter the kitchen. A tiered ceiling with strategically planned cabinetry heights and crown molding concealed the slope of the walls at the ceiling level.
The second challenge in this historic home was the awkward foot print of the kitchen. It’s likely that this kitchen had a butler’s pantry originally. However it was remodeled sometime in the 70’s and all original character was erased. Clever pantry storage was added to an awkward corner creating a space that mimicked the essence of a butler’s pantry, while providing storage desired in kitchens today.
Keeping the large footprint of the kitchen presented obstacles with the working triangle; the distance from the sink to the cooktop is several feet. The solution was installation of a pot filler over the cooktop that added convenience and elegance (not sure about this word). Not everything in this project was a challenge; the discovery of a brick chimney hiding behind plaster was a welcome surprise and brought character back honoring the historic charm of this beautiful home.

Tradition meets today in this pared-down classic. The enduring charm of inset cabinetry is combined with double-door wall cabinets, a graceful ogee profile, and recessed panel doors to recall vintage style. The color scheme establishes the light / dark theme: white perimeter cabinets support honed “Jet Mist” granite tops, while the black paneled island features 2” thick marble-like quartz. Antique bin pulls are reinterpreted here with an updated square silhouette and repeat the brass accents on the knobs and island pendant trims. Continuing the nostalgia is the timeless apron-front “farmhouse” sink. Handmade subway tiles yield understated depth to the backsplash. Holding the place of honor over the range is a mosaic of stylized houndstooth echoing the neutral palette. That pattern is playfully reiterated in the pillows on the paneled banquette. Contemporary touches are found in the cheerful red cushion, double tripod table base, and the simple brass-lined dome pendant. Adjacent to the kitchen is a dramatic black wet bar whose Gothic mullion doors reflect the curve of the demilune base cabinet. The focal point is another mosaic backsplash, here with a diamond motif. Mixed metals make a statement with a satin nickel faucet, hammered nickel bar sink, and brass decorative hardware. This project was designed by Bilotta Designer Paula Greer in collaboration with Maria LoIacono Interiors. Written by Paulette Gambacorta adapted for Houzz.

This delightful kitchen design features two-toned cabinets using Bertch’s elegant Ashton flat panel door style in a combination of the “Driftwood” stain on the Birch wood species with “Cashmere” paint color.

Interior Painting - We created the two tone look in this living room with Cream Brulee on the primary walls and Warm Nutmeg on the accent wall. The ceiling was painted with Butter Yellow. All the painting was done with Behr paint in an eggshell finish.
