From the beginning, I envisioned creating a clean, white palette for the overall look of the apartment, but I also wanted to create some beautiful, unexpected surprises through blocks of color. On the master bedroom wall behind the bed, I installed a vibrant turquoise green silk wallpaper. The color evokes the green waters of la Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta (Spanish for Large Marsh of Santa Marta) in Colombia, where the black and white Leo Matíz photograph “Pavo Real del Mar” hanging over the bed was taken more than 60 years ago. This is truly one of my favorites! When you don't want to commit to a whole wall of a specific color, why not try to paint just the moldings? That's what we ended up doing in this room, and from there we used this bold pattern on the sofa to tie together all the colors in the room. Add to that a solid side chair and some neutral chairs opposite of them both to balance out the room.

L+M's ADU is a basement converted to an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) with exterior & main level access, wet bar, living space with movie center & ethanol fireplace, office divided by custom steel & glass "window" grid, guest bathroom, & guest bedroom. This family of five live miles away from the city, in a gorgeous rural setting that allows them to enjoy the beauty of the Oregon outdoors. Their charming Craftsman influenced farmhouse was remodeled to take advantage of their pastoral views, bringing the outdoors inside. Our gallery showcases this stylish space that feels colorful, yet refined, relaxing but fun.
