The prep sink and cooking space are designed to be a social experience and are located close to, and in view of, the family room furniture arrangement. The clean-up area is located in a more private area of the space so that dirty dishes following a party could be stacked out of sight. The refrigerator is centrally located so it can efficiently service both work zones. Slab wood veneer doors in a textured gloss finish are framed by pilasters forming a cohesive furniture concept throughout the design. White countertops receive waterfall sides in strategic locations and are complimented by white porcelain tile backsplash with a modern wavy texture. Blue pendants, blue counter stools and a blue accent wall satisfy the client’s need for a splash of their favorite color. The wall between the kitchen and dining area was removed to achieve the open concept that the clients wanted. The existing small kitchen table was replaced by an eating area with stools at the island and a larger, family-friendly dining table. Transitional exterior home idea in Minneapolis

This remodel went from a tiny story-and-a-half Cape Cod, to a charming full two-story home. The exterior features an additional front-facing gable and a beautiful front porch that is perfect for socializing with neighbors. Pak Cheung This section is a new gable dormer that adds much-needed volume to this attic. The choice of paint color added bright and playful feel to the space. The challenge when adding a dormer is maintaining structural support of the ridge beam. In this case, given the age of the house, finding point loads to support the existing beam would have created unknown conditions and required renovation work on the first and basement levels. The engineer's solution was to create an A-frame girder (see the triangle shape on the top left of photo) supported on existing exterior bearing walls. The new gable dormer is tied into this girder. We installed new hardwood flooring throughout the space. Though the attic had two large existing skylights, to bring in more natural light we added two more skylights—one in the bathroom and one in the hallway. We also installed new recessed lights throughout the entire space and in the bathroom.

The design, which included two-tone base and upper cabinets, Cambria SummerHill Quartz, chrome cabinet hardware, arabesque marble backsplash tile, and undercabinet lighting made the final product simply stellar!
