Put the fun in functional! We helped this family make the kitchen more functional for them by removing the archway between spaces for a better layout. The Fabuwood Luna Timber cabinets provide more storage options and make use of unused areas. The new countertops are Metropolis Quartz and tie in well with the new Samsung appliances. The space is brightened by new can lights in the ceiling and a splash of Restful Sherwin Williams paint. Finally, the Frieze White Recede tile backsplash is highlighted by the undercabinet lighting.

Our busy Silicon Valley clients asked us to convert their tight-quartered 1960’s ranch house to a gracious family home that would meet their long term needs. Ease of living was paramount, both in functionality and in ordered design. The project was completed on a moderate budget.While retaining most of the structure of the existing house to avoid costly structural changes, we opened walls to improve the sight lines and flow of the house and bring in more light. We made small additions at the front and back bedrooms to gain space for the family and relatives. An existing underused patio area was improved with a simple outdoor kitchen and overhang to extend the living space to the outside. Costs were kept down with choices of modest materials. Everything was made to be functional. Ample storage has been built into the right places. The details of the kitchen were carefully worked out to accommodate all the wishes of the various cooks in the family. The house is set up to be easy to keep clean. Acoustic walls separate living from bedroom spaces so adults can enjoy time together while children sleep. The outdoor kitchen has easy access to the indoor kitchen and the garage, and its setup promotes socializing while cooking outdoors. A large part of the narrow back yard was previously unusable space due to a steep slope up to a neighbor’s higher fence. With a new retaining wall and some re-grading we took back more of the yard for the patio and play space on a new lawn. The remodeled house is a mix of contemporary and traditional elements. Cool colors have a calming effect. Traditional items such as prairie style windows, trellis, mosaic tiles, and Shaker style cabinets, break down the scale in an otherwise streamlined, contemporary design. A new gabled roof with a broad arch at the front of the house marks the entry and resolves a challenging form where the central entry is set back from walls on both sides. Crofton, MD The client wanted a small opening from the kitchen to a dark unused family room in attempt to make the space more desirable. I wanted to see the family room brighter, warmer and at the same time be part of the hub for entertaining. We removed half of the wall between the kitchen and family room. This then gave me the opportunity to create a peninsula counter with seating for gathering. By removing the wall between the 2 rooms the traffic flow was improved and more natural light was allowed to flood into the rooms from a pair of sliding glass doors. Contractor, Artech Construction.

In the Ensuite, an unused corner tub was removed to add a more desirable freestanding tub, while maintaining a modern aesthetic. The aesthetics lends itself to a neutral palette paired with a calming blue.

This old and outdated kitchen was transformed into an open, inviting, modern and functioning space that everyone wants to gather and hang out in. This was achieved by reconfiguring the space, eliminating walls and adding and incorporating the unused dining space. The new kitchen cabinets were done in the Manhattan door from the Kitchen Solvers Classic Collection line in an Alabaster color while the island was done in a black tea color. We next installed a Cambria Quartz countertop in Carrick around the kitchen while the island was done in Minuet. To finish the new look we added a Ceramic white with marble veining backsplash around the kitchen, while around the hood they went with a gray glass backsplash. The two-toned cabinets topped with two beautiful different Cambria quartz and backsplash gave it the added sophistication.

This Jefferson Avenue basement remodel strikes the perfect balance between comfort and utility. Contemporary kitchen renovation in Colonial style home. The concept was to open up and remove the boxed in feeling of your typical colonial style homes. The existing spaces were almost unusable or impractical for functional use of the space. Furniture did not fit in the breakfast nook, dining area was too small and felt cramped and the kitchen was not functional for food preparation. The main living space in the home was opened up as much as possible to allow for as much natural light to enter form all side of the house. In this photo the wall between the large living room space and the entry stairwell was opened to create a larger open feel. This kitchen just needed a little TLC and some updates to make it home for this lovely family. Painting the cabinets, updating the hardware, countertops and appliances really brought it to life. We opened up the space by removing an unused staircase and giving the homeowners a much needed walk-in pantry. Adding a classic handmade white subway tile by Waterworks put the finishing touch on their new home.

This project took APD to the Oregon Coast for the remodel of two beach house bathrooms! The primary suite was gutted - removing an unused jetted tub in favor of an expansive corner vanity. The shower was opened up by removing an awkwardly located tall cabinet and by swapping a full height wall in favor for a pony wall with glass above. The bathroom is bathed in natural light via the skylight and frosted casement window. A luxurious shower experience was created with ceiling mount rain shower head, wall mount fixed shower head, hand shower on slider bar, and a modern waterfall slab shower bench with integrated niche. A subtle coastal vibe was created with the blue, white, and sandy gray color palette while artistic light fixtures fixtures, clean lined matte black plumbing, and straight stacked tile infuse modernity. In the hall bathroom, a cohesive design was created with added playfulness from the patterned floor tile!

A double-deck house in Tampa, Florida with a garden and swimming pool is currently under construction. The owner's idea was to create a monochrome interior in gray tones. We added turquoise and beige colors to soften it. For the floors we designed wooden parquet in the shade of oak wood. The built in bio fireplace is a symbol of the home sweet home feel. We used many textiles, mainly curtains and carpets, to make the family space more cosy. The dining area is dominated by a beautiful chandelier with crystal balls from the US store Restoration Hardware and to it wall lamps next to fireplace in the same set. The center of the living area creates comfortable sofa, elegantly complemented by the design side glass tables with recessed wooden branche, also from Restoration Hardware  There is also a built-in library with backlight, which fills the unused space next to door. The whole house is lit by lots of led strips in the ceiling. I believe we have created beautiful, luxurious and elegant living for the young family :-)

camilleriparismode projects and design team were approached to rethink a previously unused double height room in a wonderful villa. the lower part of the room was planned as a sitting and dining area, the sub level above as a tv den and games room. as the occupants enjoy their time together as a family, as well as their shared love of books, a floor-to-ceiling library was an ideal way of using and linking the large volume. the large library covers one wall of the room spilling into the den area above. it is given a sense of movement by the differing sizes of the verticals and shelves, broken up by randomly placed closed cupboards. the floating marble fireplace at the base of the library unit helps achieve a feeling of lightness despite it being a complex structure, while offering a cosy atmosphere to the family area below. the split-level den is reached via a solid oak staircase, below which is a custom made wine room. the staircase is concealed from the dining area by a high wall, painted in a bold colour on which a collection of paintings is displayed. photos by: brian grech

A referral from Facebook Group, these clients were on a timeline to get into their newly purchased home that needed a whole lot of updating! We first tackled their flooring and stair railing, so they could move in. We then got to work on their owner's suite bathroom, which had a lot of unused space and outdated finishes. A few of the things we changed: we turned a built in tub to a freestanding, changed the orientation of the shower and made it larger, and swamped out a built in vanity for a freestanding furniture vanity.

Step into a cozy and inviting atmosphere – a Hygge-inspired Scandinavian kitchen that is sure to warm the heart and bring the family closer together. Previously closed off and isolated from the rest of the home and family, we opened up walls between the kitchen and dining room and created an open-concept space that encourages togetherness and shared moments. Goodbye to isolation and hello to a kitchen that not only looks stunning but also fosters a sense of unity and connection. The front of the home now has a full glass door as well as a full glass side panel to allow more light into the front entrance. The homeowners needed more storage, so we created a floor-to-ceiling bank of pantry cupboards in an unused part of the eat-in kitchen, and we also created more storage under the bench. The removal of the wall was a little challenging because it was a load-bearing wall. We needed to add a full-span beam around to the back of the home and have it installed in one piece. We had to reroute the mechanical systems, a bulkhead and mechanical chase now to hide the beam and the plumbing. The selections and colours – light cabinetry with sage-coloured lower cabinets, white countertops and natural maple hardwood – add to the beautiful open feeling the homeowners wanted. The original kitchen had dated finishes and was tired looking. The peninsula and meal-homework-and-crafts nook make the perfect setting for a young family.
