These wonderful clients returned to us for their newest home remodel adventure. Their newly purchased custom built 1970s modern ranch sits in one of the loveliest neighborhoods south of the city but the current conditions of the home were out-dated and not so lovely. Upon entering the front door through the court you were greeted abruptly by a very boring staircase and an excessive number of doors. Just to the left of the double door entry was a large slider and on your right once inside the home was a soldier line up of doors. This made for an uneasy and uninviting entry that guests would quickly forget and our clients would often avoid. We also had our hands full in the kitchen. The existing space included many elements that felt out of place in a modern ranch including a rustic mountain scene backsplash, cherry cabinets with raised panel and detailed profile, and an island so massive you couldn’t pass a drink across the stone. Our design sought to address the functional pain points of the home and transform the overall aesthetic into something that felt like home for our clients.
For the entry, we re-worked the front door configuration by switching from the double door to a large single door with side lights. The sliding door next to the main entry door was replaced with a large window to eliminate entry door confusion. In our re-work of the entry staircase, guesta are now greeted into the foyer which features the Coral Pendant by David Trubridge. Guests are drawn into the home by stunning views of the front range via the large floor-to-ceiling glass wall in the living room. To the left, the staircases leading down to the basement and up to the master bedroom received a massive aesthetic upgrade. The rebuilt 2nd-floor staircase has a center spine with wood rise and run appearing to float upwards towards the master suite. A slatted wall of wood separates the two staircases which brings more light into the basement stairwell. Black metal railings add a stunning contrast to the light wood.
Other fabulous upgrades to this home included new wide plank flooring throughout the home, which offers both modernity and warmth. The once too-large kitchen island was downsized to create a functional focal point that is still accessible and intimate. The old dark and heavy kitchen cabinetry was replaced with sleek white cabinets, brightening up the space and elevating the aesthetic of the entire room. The kitchen countertops are marble look quartz with dramatic veining that offers an artistic feature behind the range and across all horizontal surfaces in the kitchen. As a final touch, cascading island pendants were installed which emphasize the gorgeous ceiling vault and provide warm feature lighting over the central point of the kitchen.
This transformation reintroduces light and simplicity to this gorgeous home, and we are so happy that our clients can reap the benefits of this elegant and functional design for years to come.

Turnstyle DesignWhen you love something and you realize after years, you’ve inadvertently put that away, a good designer will help you bring that back out. That was Turnstyle’s responsibility here with this recent client project: bring back the joy of spending time in a home library. This space is precious to me, because I’ve known it for all the many years I’ve been working on this home. It sits proudly in the center of the house, greeting people upon entry, and, in my opinion, was a jewel box ready to receive its shine. We blew through a wall to allow it a more spacious entrance, helping anyone who visits to immediately see the stunning on-the-lake view. I applied custom wall to wall antique glass to each wall, floor to ceiling, to enhance the view, make the walls feel like they fall away, and also reflect all the now beautiful art and furniture pieces as part of its new design. Influences from things gathered, stunning reworked furniture from the 1970s and all around functional hero items, allow for better working. The main push residing in really enabling quality time there. This space is open is now refreshing and full of beautiful objects and memorabilia. An inspiring place to contemplate, one is surrounded, and influenced, by a strong, fully fleshed out space through my extensive love of pattern, color and unusual combinations.

The Inn has experienced numerous transformations throughout it’s two hundred and thirty five year history, from a millenery shop, stage coach stop, hotel, restaurant and doctors’ office. It now serves as a Bed and Breakfast with a Brewery attached. This beautiful staircase is front and center upon entry and fits the historic, aged feel of the property to a tee.

outdated space while bringing new life and purpose to a large, unused dining area.
Previously featuring dark wood cabinetry beneath low ceilings, the kitchen’s 90’s design was
ready for refresh. The area diagonal to the kitchen - a “breakfast room” sitting nearly empty, was
also redundant with the formal dining room nearby. Because of the open floor plan, the space
was noticeable immediately upon entering the home.
The clients knew that there was potential, but had never committed to transforming the extra
square footage into anything more than additional seating. Our designer’s idea was to extend
the kitchen into the dining area by adding cabinetry and a coffee bar, using the same custom
cabinets for a cohesive look. Navy blue paint defines the coffee bar, while touches of blue on the kitchen island, and the veining of the white quartz countertops tie the design together.
Other favorite features of the design include the chef oven with a custom hood, the farmhouse
sink from Blanco, and custom bench seating under the windows.

Borrelli Design+CabinetryThis kitchen remodel has been 27 years in the making and was ready for an all-around update. During our first few meetings, our client had envisioned what drawers would house which items and really wanted the kitchen to accommodate more people whether for a simple meal or for multiple cooks during a celebratory gathering. The original kitchen did not have enough storage and the island did not allow for much seating space. Our client dreamed of a kitchen where she could cook and entertain her family and friends at the same time.
An existing wall enclosing the kitchen was removed and another wall was extended to room for a wall of cabinetry while also allowing the space for a bigger island. Upon entering the kitchen, a base cabinet with beveled glass doors showcases the beautiful china that our client has collected throughout the years. The new kitchen is packed with appliances that allow our client to make the best usage of them. A 48” American Range Lenged Series rangetop and a 48” stainless steel hood by Windster form the heart of the kitchen. A stainless steel backsplash allows easy maintenance for our client who uses the kitchen so often. The new wall now starts with a desk/office area, a 30” American Range Legacy Series double wall oven, a 36” French door refrigerator, ice maker, wine refrigerator and beverage center. A mixer stand is located in the base cabinet of the island to save countertop space and a drawer bank allows for baking utensils. A prep sink is part of the island with a single trash to make cooking, prepping and cleaning an ease for multiple cooks. A microwave drawer is also available on the island. Easy access and once again keeping the countertop work space open and free. Storage is available at the seating area for seasonal items.
The kitchen finishes were completely switched out as well. The new cabinetry consists of a Cherry species in the Nantucket door style by Crystal Cabinets. Cabinets were finished in a Cinnamon stain with black glazing in a distressed look with cracking and wearing. The surrounding cabinets have a leathered granite and a marble countertop for the island. The three-part crown was inspired by an armoire that has been with the family for a long period of time. Crystal knobs and cup style pulls provide the finishing touches to this beautiful and functional kitchen. Ever since the kitchen has been completed, our client has spent so much time in the kitchen, cooking at home has overridden the want to go out and eat.

The Beerline is a former industrial corridor located along the Milwaukee River. Vetter’s urban design strategy was to create a modern, traditional neighborhood centered around three distinct yet connected levels of scale – civic, pedestrian and personal.
The Beerline River Homes provide a walkable connection to the city, the beautiful Milwaukee River, and the surrounding environs. The diversity of these custom homes is evident not only in the unique association of the units to the specific edges each one addresses, but also in the diverse range of pricing from the accessible to the high-end. In an effort to integrate the typical urban neighborhood with the context of an industrial corridor, we relied upon thoughtful connections to materials such as brick, stucco, and fine woods, thus creating a feeling of refined elegance in balance with the sculpture of the historic warehouses across the Milwaukee River.

Metropolis Drafting and Construction IncArcadia is home to many great ranch homes. Many of these homes were built with many small rooms and areas divided by walls, doors and hallways.
In this project we took it upon ourselves to eliminate all these small compartments to create a great room in the center of the home.
In addition, we constructed a room-addition to include a parent’s suite on the opposite side of the great room so it will have the privacy our clients wished to have.
As part of the structural changes, we found that we need to completely redesign the back portion of the roof line to be higher and more unformal.
This gave us an opportunity to create a 10' ceiling for the proposed kitchen.
The extra space allowed us to build a second row of upper cabinets with some glass doors for showcasing our clients china collection.
The design is very traditional / traditional in nature.
Lots of neutral colors with white tones dominating the space.
The main contrast and addition of warmth were the hickory floors that added the much-needed contrast to the quick and cooler white tones.
Preservation Tree ServicesRecently, Certified Arborist and Urban Forester, Micah Pace, was called upon to assess and remove three trees that a home was built around 35 years ago. The family fell in love with this McKinney, Texas property because of the large cedar elms that filled the neighborhood. Instead of removing the trees to make room for the home, the family hired an architect to build the home around the trees (THAT's dedication!). They knew they’d eventually have to remove the trees due to construction and environmental damage, but they just couldn’t bear to part with them at the time of the home build.
First, we began with the removal of the large cedar elm in the center of the home. The tree’s canopy was sectioned out making the pre-selected picks accounting for weight and balance. The material was then lifted and placed in the street next to the chipper where crew members were ready to cut and chip the small diameter material. Large diameter branch and trunk material were lifted and placed onto a trailer stationed directly by the crane. This process was then continued for each of the three remaining trees.
The Kaufman CollaborativeThe floating wall is the first thing people see upon entering the house. It appears to hover above the stained concrete floor. Separating private from public space, the wall directs you to the kitchen to the right or the media center to the left. The most common question they ask is, "How does this thing stay up?.
