Mid-sized urban light wood floor and beige floor enclosed dining room photo in New York with red walls, a standard fireplace and a stone fireplace

AFTER PHOTO: Although the fireplace had no venting, it did conveniently have a chase wall that went all the way to the ceiling. This provided a means of installing a Valor "Horizon" direct vent fireplace (vented vertically through the roof). We built an opening that recesses into the wall above the fireplace and painted it black to create a frame for the tv to be recessed into the wall. . This will help protect the tv from the heat that rises from the fireplace. The Horizon fireplace will provide substantial heat but produce absolutely no odors. Removing the elaborate overmantel and refacing the fireplace chase with the light beige stone creates a much more open and updated feel to the room.

The Legend G3 gas insert was the perfect choice for this formal living room and does a great job helping to heat the home.

Looking at this home today, you would never know that the project began as a poorly maintained duplex. Luckily, the homeowners saw past the worn façade and engaged our team to uncover and update the Victorian gem that lay underneath. Taking special care to preserve the historical integrity of the 100-year-old floor plan, we returned the home back to its original glory as a grand, single family home.
The project included many renovations, both small and large, including the addition of a a wraparound porch to bring the façade closer to the street, a gable with custom scrollwork to accent the new front door, and a more substantial balustrade. Windows were added to bring in more light and some interior walls were removed to open up the public spaces to accommodate the family’s lifestyle.

The homeowners had a vent-free gas fireplace that they didn't like because of the fumes it put into their room. The fireplace was so elaborate yet incongruent that it overpowered the room because it is so top heavy.

this client owns a Victorian Home in Essex county NJ and asked me to design a fireplace surround that was appropriate for the space and hid the television. The mirror you see in the photo is actually a 2-way mirror and if you look closely at the center section of the mantle, the remote speaker for the TV is built in. The fretwork pattern adds a lovely detail and the super columns (column on top of column) fit perfectly in the design scheme.
