During excavation for this new modern home, large granite boulders rose to the surface from the primordial hillside. Instead of displacing these monoliths from the site from which they were created, they were arranged to define space. A circle of boulders stand guard around a custom built fire pit, providing protection from the wind while offering a place to climb or sit. The extended landscape view from the lawn is kept intact by the introduction of a ha-ha, a traditional landscape feature, that hides the productive garden and keeps it from breaking the view. Native and drought tolerant plantings hug the outer edges of the property for minimal use of irrigation and to visually blend into the surrounding hillside. This project also features a custom ipe bench with integrated lighting, waterjet address numbers with night lighting, and hardscape that complements the form and materiality of the architecture to create a harmonious transition into the horizontal plane.

Landscape Contractor Values:
Any given Landscape Contractor may have a different approach, but Landscape Contractor, Brett Berry of Berry Outdoor Living creates living areas that feel connected to the home. As a Landscape Designer and Landscape Contractor working with a Landscape Architect, we try to create the space so it feels relaxed. It should feel like it's been in place with the home for years and not an "add-on".
As a Landscape Contractor that merges old and new construction into the landscape design, the goal is to build a space people want to spend time, whether at the bar of the outdoor kitchen, fire pit, patio, or covered porch. When a space becomes a large part of the homeowners' daily life, as a Landscape Contractor, that's when I know a project has been completed with excellence. I work closely with a Landscape Architect through the design process to ensure the space has the correct "feel".
A Landscape Contractor must build the space to flow from the inside of the home out. The patio and outdoor living space feels like an extension of the home, or another "room" of the home and feels wrapped with fresh, low-maintenance landscaping.
In Kansas City patio, and landscaping design, there is a clear trend toward a cleaner, more defined look influenced by a more modern era viewpoint that values a non-cluttered look and feel. So, as a Landscape Contractor, in our circle of clients, we've seen a definite shift toward cleaner, artisan-crafted backyards and fewer "boxy", shrub-heavy yards. A Landscape Contractor with a keen sense designs this effect.

This is an Ottawa basement renovation done by Dream Touch Renovations.
The home owners love it, and we're excited to showcase this simple yet awesome design.
The walls will look great when they get more pictures up!

Part two of the "classic" job. The time period radius steps were a major feature leading from the bluestone patio down to the lawn. This yard is now heavily planted and completely gorgous! I need a new picture. :)

Classic Ward Parkway to Wornall corridor home. Very traditional landscaping with the Japanese Maple and Dogwood understory and elm canopy. Stately brick walkway approach and lush, but under-stated plantings.

Porches and view decks remodeled. Previous guard rails blocked the view, but new guard rails were stepped down so that view from top of deck is unobstructed. Steps act as seats for bigger events.
Roof canopy in the foreground was existing, but new finishes were applied. New lighting fixtures by Two Hills Studio.
Composite decking and cable rails are new.

Very special client. This viniette is a nice surprise you encounter as you round a path. Japanese Iris belies the watery pond at the feet of the barefoot girl; subtle splashing sound to relax you. Incredibly strong large granite in the background segways to the Japanese-influenced back yard.

- AUTOREGGENTE TABLE.
The legs of Autoreggente, apparently slender, lean and fit against each other. The balance of forces expresses movement and instability, but the unity and solidarity of the grid generate power and strength, and the table stands firmly by itself.

An Italian restaurant closed and and this lovely lady was gifted to friends. Solid and luminous thassos marble makes her a striking presence in the artfully landscaped drive. She has been known to don seasonal attire and dress up or down for special occasions. Serious fun even before you get to the door. Rustic pavers were added around the statue base on top of sand and dirt mix. Plantings of Hosta, Azalia, Mondo grass & moss added to frame her area and make her feel welcome. All provide almost instant gratification and integration to an established area of landscape.

What I love about this is everything! The texture, color and placement of the boulder in the background. The smoother, round stones in the dry creek. The lush, creeping lime groundcover around the boulder; the stalks of hostas shooting up like rockets; the feathery fern to the left; the delicate burgundy texture plant in the foreground and the dainty veronica spindling over the stone. All of these things are contrasts and are built in a very small, intimate area. Serious gardeners appreciate these things.
