Although our empty nester clients were still enjoying their custom home they had lived in for nearly 30 years, they had outgrown their once state-of-the-art 1980s master bathroom. Our master bathroom facelift transformed a bathroom with carpet, wallpaper, glass block tiles, and a 30 year old Jacuzzi. It transformed into a clean lined, yet warm and inviting space that still worked with the home’s contemporary architecture. Our selections started with a natural stone for the vanity, and selecting Sapele wood cabinetry for both it’s textured lines and color qualities. Our next step was our hardware and fittings – knowing we wanted both function and visual appeal. We relocated the double vanities at the center of the room, and installed the shower on the other side of the wall creating a circular passage for flow. The integrated sinks make a statement at the vanity – as well as the large apron of stone surrounding the face of the cabinetry. Wall mount faucets, and matte textured tile running vertically complete the look. The free-standing vessel tub leaves a lasting impression against the windows. Corner cabinetry and shelves add both storage and visual appeal. Tucked in the corner an upholstered bench, yet more storage and built in jewelry organization. Large format porcelain floor tiles were installed with a smooth skimstone application on the shower floor. Amenities and special touches in the bathroom include radiant heating, LED lighting under the cabinets and behind the vanity mirrors, a large format thermostat controlled towel bar, a linear drain in the shower, and a wall mounted energy efficient toilet. One important element with any design project is the development of a "design path" (or "color path"), that creates a coherent, well-planned look for the entire space. Oftentimes this is called a "color board" and all the swatches, finishes and fabrics are laid out together to see the entire room (or entire home) and how all the design elements coordinate and work together. In kitchen design, this includes wall paint colors, cabinetry finish colors, flooring, countertops, and tile along with appliance, plumbing, and hardware finishes. For the interior design with a room or entire home, it includes furnishings and other surfaces as well. The idea is to create a cohesive look for the entire space. To create a color path for your home or remodeling project, begin with your neutral colors and then select the other colors for your space. The colors you select may be based on your existing furnishings, a favorite piece of art, or simply colors that resonate to you. In order to create a visually appealing space, let this color page guide your color selections going forward. Neutral colors (gray, beige, taupe or white) will usually be the background palette with 1-3 other dominant colors layered. For contemporary or transitional designs, oftentimes a sleek, neutral palette is selected and it's important for all colors to be consistent with this palette. Project Airstream is a stylish 50' X 8' underground shelter built and designed for a young family of four. Behind these solid walnut doors hides the guts of this incredible home 20' underground. Underground Shelters are quite an engineering feat. Some owners are fine seeing all the tubes, wires, equipment and such but for these homeowners it wasn't visually appealing. Mrs. client decided she would rather take her chances above ground than live in the dark, dank steel infested, tiny submarine her husband had bought. Enter... Robeson Design It was our job to perform a miracle on this scary proposition... PROJECT AIRSTREAM Challenge: Tiny 8' round Kitchen Curved walls, floor and ceiling Limited storage space available No Windows No Way out! Mr. Client contacted us after finding us on YouTube. His question.. Have you ever designed a home 20' underground? WHAT??? Did you say "Underground" ? Heres how we did it... (Tiny 8' round Kitchen) Used a reflective mirror tile to cover the wall above the sink and prep area providing light, reflection and an illusion of space. Light grey paint with dark walnut stained woodwork provided a visually appealing contrast. Minimalist low profile chrome and stainless appliances and plumbing fixtures. Ran the flooring: striped carpet and vinyl flooring, horizontally to emphasize the width. (Curved walls, floor and ceiling) Design custom furniture and built-in pieces with rounded sides to fit the tube perfectly. Furniture pieces convert for multiple uses... we call it our "Transformer Furniture" (Limited storage space available) Hidden storage in, below, beneath, above and atop without you even knowing it :-) Its functional AND fashionable all at the same time. (No Windows) Commissioned a hand painted mural in selected areas adding color, texture, visual interest and most important an illusion of perspective that takes your eye beyond the 8' steel walls. These highly attractive bespoke built-in bookcases and matching desk were handcrafted by Claude Clémaron for a period-style home office and library in Putney, southwest London. Traditionally constructed and designed fitted furniture like this has incredible charm and creates a warm, homely and calming atmosphere. Though traditional in style, the fitted furniture has been customised to discreetly integrate modern technology, cabling and wiring into the design. The L-shaped cabinet, for instance, cleverly houses an air conditioning unit. A bespoke home office full of character Every detail is detail. From the antique bronze doorknobs to open the cupboard doors to the beautifully crafted, solid oak library ladder to reach the highest shelves. Handcrafted and hand finished for longevity and looks The fitted cabinets have been spraypainted in Hardwick White by Farrow and Ball; a timeless light neutral colour with a rich, chalky grey-green hue. Oak has been used to line the upper open bookcases. The natural wood adds a visual contrast to the painted finish of the cabinetry and will be more resilient to wear and tear. Painted shelves can be more prone to chipping and scratching when in frequent use. Decorative woodworking and period design elements Traditionally constructed and designed, this bespoke built-in cabinetry features an authentic beaded inset detail on the cupboard doors, as well as distinctive fluting, all adding further dimension and elegance to the high end furniture. The bespoke matching handcrafted desk features integrated storage and a curved right hand detailed panel. The curved edge softens the look and feel of the desk. A smooth skiver leather inlay, made from sheepskin, is a traditional feature that provides a comfortable surface for writing or using a mouse. The inlay’s natural texture and warm tan colour enhance the desk’s visual appeal and creates a pleasant tactile experience.
