This condo is in an industrial redevelopment district in Jersey City, right across from Manhattan. Before, the dated wooden cabinets and black granite was not in synch with the modern loft look. Ceilings were low (7'2"), light was weak. The peninsula/breakfast bar under stairs was awkward, and the laundry jut out, making the entrance too narrow and claustrophobic. First, we raised the ceiling 7 inches, and straightened the sight lines, widening the entry to the condo. We then put down white hardwood floors, white acrylic cabinets from IKEA, Caesarstone quartz counters, and Bosch appliances. The laundry was brought into the kitchen. We also added a second 1 foot wide 9 foot long counter space with cabinets underneath, making this a galley kitchen. We used stainless legs and uppers to make the 2nd row of cabinets, which kept the kitchen from feeling narrow. We extended the kitchen into the living room, extending it 5 ft longer, and making it open concept and functional. The floating staircase was covered to keep it sanitary. Finally, we used a large format tile as backsplash, making clean up a breeze and put in LED undercabinet lights. The most expensive part of the project was raising the ceiling and straightening the entrance, which cost about $10,000. We splurged on Bosch 800 appliances, top of the line flooring (Mohawk Architexture), countertop (Caesarstone), tile (Porcelanosa), and doors (Ringhult IKEA) but managed to stay under $20,000 otherwise. The kitchen was part of a full renovation designed by the owner, and undertaken by Nazco Interiors.

This is a 'cooks kitchen' with three ovens. One of which is a steamer oven by Bosch. Reported to make the best ...and crisp...chicken even. The island also contains an induction cooktop with down draft. A drawer microwave and a party sink, which can be used as a prep sink or filled with ice and hold bottles of champagne. All appliances by Bosch.

A close-up of the gorgeous countertop and the farmhouse sink, which is a perfect example of where charming and modern meet. We also love the open shelving area above the sink.

This casually elegant Westlake home was designed with an ocean inspired color pallet. Every surface was recovered and the kitchen has a new footprint, with an open layout and an added pantry. The Kitchen is home to all high-end appliances including Subzero, Wolfe and a Bosch dishwasher. Brand new dark hardwood floors throughout the home contrast the light colored walls and tile. The beautiful green marble island top is the center of the kitchen, with large restoration hardware pendants hanging above. All accessories and hardware are satin nickel, which ties in with the rest of the home. The backsplash is made of green and blue glass tile with white subway tiles, surrounded by custom cabinetry.
A built-in fridge, hood and dishwasher help minimize the feel of the appliances in the kitchen. Roman shades over the windows help soften the space. Tons of storage and large drawers for pots and pans, with a large apron sink at the head of the kitchen. The space boasts garden views for every window with an open floor plan. It is open and adjacent to the dining room and the family room, making it the perfect place for entertaining friends and family.

For this project, the entire kitchen was designed around the “must-have” Lacanche range in the stunning French Blue with brass trim. That was the client’s dream and everything had to be built to complement it. Bilotta senior designer, Randy O’Kane, CKD worked with Paul Benowitz and Dipti Shah of Benowitz Shah Architects to contemporize the kitchen while staying true to the original house which was designed in 1928 by regionally noted architect Franklin P. Hammond. The clients purchased the home over two years ago from the original owner. While the house has a magnificent architectural presence from the street, the basic systems, appointments, and most importantly, the layout and flow were inappropriately suited to contemporary living.
The new plan removed an outdated screened porch at the rear which was replaced with the new family room and moved the kitchen from a dark corner in the front of the house to the center. The visual connection from the kitchen through the family room is dramatic and gives direct access to the rear yard and patio. It was important that the island separating the kitchen from the family room have ample space to the left and right to facilitate traffic patterns, and interaction among family members. Hence vertical kitchen elements were placed primarily on existing interior walls. The cabinetry used was Bilotta’s private label, the Bilotta Collection – they selected beautiful, dramatic, yet subdued finishes for the meticulously handcrafted cabinetry. The double islands allow for the busy family to have a space for everything – the island closer to the range has seating and makes a perfect space for doing homework or crafts, or having breakfast or snacks. The second island has ample space for storage and books and acts as a staging area from the kitchen to the dinner table. The kitchen perimeter and both islands are painted in Benjamin Moore’s Paper White. The wall cabinets flanking the sink have wire mesh fronts in a statuary bronze – the insides of these cabinets are painted blue to match the range. The breakfast room cabinetry is Benjamin Moore’s Lampblack with the interiors of the glass cabinets painted in Paper White to match the kitchen. All countertops are Vermont White Quartzite from Eastern Stone. The backsplash is Artistic Tile’s Kyoto White and Kyoto Steel. The fireclay apron-front main sink is from Rohl while the smaller prep sink is from Linkasink. All faucets are from Waterstone in their antique pewter finish. The brass hardware is from Armac Martin and the pendants above the center island are from Circa Lighting. The appliances, aside from the range, are a mix of Sub-Zero, Thermador and Bosch with panels on everything.

I love a client that has my taste in décor. Making this client a dream to work with. First things started with the kitchen layout which was horrendous, then gradually we worked our way though to baths rooms. After that the flooring and paint colors gave this coastal wonder the shine it deserves.
