Inspiration for a modern family room remodel in San Diego

Natural maple cabinets were used on both sides of the fireplace to tie in the doors used throughout this new build home. A great view of the lake is right outside the sliding door so the TV placement was decided on to maximize views. The cabinets were held down from the ceiling so art could be hung and become a great backdrop for pottery collected from around the world. Rollouts were placed in the bottom cabinets for movie storage and the components are in the shallow wall cabinet on the right.

Nestled in the heart of the living space, a whitewashed brick fireplace stands as a focal point of timeless charm and warmth. The gentle, neutral tones of the brick are invitingly softened by the artful touch of whitewashing, imparting a cozy and rustic feel to the room. Adjacent to this comforting centerpiece, a log hook patiently awaits its turn to contribute to the crackling flames. The simplicity of the whitewashed brick blends seamlessly with the natural wood elements, creating a harmonious atmosphere that beckons for moments of relaxation and fireside conversations.

This 1850s farmhouse in the country outside NY underwent a dramatic makeover! Dark wood molding was painted white, shiplap added to the walls, wheat-colored grasscloth installed, and carpets torn out to make way for natural stone and heart pine flooring. We based the palette on quintessential American colors: red, white, and navy. Rooms that had been dark were filled with light and became the backdrop for cozy fabrics, wool rugs, and a collection of art and curios. Whitewashed wood floors and original whitewashed brink add a casual charm, texture and interest to the spaces.
