Living room - large french country living room idea in Seattle with a wood stove and a brick fireplace

In the early 50s, Herbert and Ruth Weiss attended a lecture by Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius hosted by MIT. They were fascinated by Gropius’ description of the ‘Five Fields’ community of 60 houses he and his firm, The Architect’s Collaborative (TAC), were designing in Lexington, MA. The Weiss’ fell in love with Gropius’ vision for a grouping of 60 modern houses to be arrayed around eight acres of common land that would include a community pool and playground. They soon had one of their own.The original, TAC-designed house was a single-slope design with a modest footprint of 800 square feet. Several years later, the Weiss’ commissioned modernist architect Henry Hoover to add a living room wing and new entry to the house. Hoover’s design included a wall of glass which opens to a charming pond carved into the outcropping of granite ledge.
After living in the house for 65 years, the Weiss’ sold the house to our client, who asked us to design a renovation that would respect the integrity of the vintage modern architecture. Our design focused on reorienting the kitchen, opening it up to the family room. The bedroom wing was redesigned to create a principal bedroom with en-suite bathroom. Interior finishes were edited to create a more fluid relationship between the original TAC home and Hoover’s addition. We worked closely with the builder, Patriot Custom Homes, to install Solar electric panels married to an efficient heat pump heating and cooling system. These updates integrate modern touches and high efficiency into a striking piece of architectural history.

This Davidsonville kitchen remodel features classic HomeCrest by MasterBrand Cabinets Sedona style Maple cabinetry in Alpine, accented by Top Knobs Hindra pulls and a steel gray leathered granite countertop. The backsplash adds natural texture with 3x6 Carrara marble tiles, and under and over cabinet lighting offers task lighting and highlights design features. The design also includes an Allora USA double bowl sink paired with a Delta Cassidy faucet, and Samsung appliances. A peninsula with barstools is an ideal spot for casual dining.

The homeowners of this California Cottage wanted a beach vibe in their 1700 sq. ft. home. They wanted to make the most of their spaces by widening doorways, adding wood floors throughout the house, and adding a skylight. The result is cozy, casual California living at its best with frequent family dinners and celebrations with friends.

We worked on the kitchen, three bathrooms, a custom bar, mudroom, and laundry room in this home.
The kitchen features Quarter Sawn White Oak cabinets with a Driftwood Stain and white quartz countertops.
For the bar, we used black painted cabinets and a bench, glass doors with interior lighting, and a mirrored backsplash.
The mudroom has 10 ft ceilings and provides storage for the whole family! We used dark grey painted lockers and benches.
Bathroom 1 has white-washed maple cabinets with brown highlights. Bathroom 2 has white-washed maple cabinets, as well. We created custom doors for the primary bathroom using red oak with the classic white stain.
