Lightweight carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic, which would be algae-based in the near future, is used for table structure. With tensile strength at one-quarter the weight of steel, and lighter than aluminum, carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic legs are further optimized with generative design algorithms to use less material.

At 30 years of age honey oak trim and cabinetry easily goes from dated to unsightly. Such was the case with these homeowners who had wanted to chuck the traditional look of oak for more years than they care to think about.
“It wasn’t just about the honey oak,” explains Murphy Bros. design/build consultant Courtney Cartee, “Although that was a big part of it. The overall end goal was a lighter, brighter ambiance, better workflow and a complete rethink on dinning space.”
Most kitchens of that 90’s era featured inadequate lighting and small islands or peninsulas. In this particular case, the homeowners even wanted to eliminate the traditional family breakfast table.

This Redmond kitchen renovation focused on elevating the space while preserving the original layout and structural framework. The design approach emphasizes visual clarity, balanced proportions, and long-term functionality, creating a modern yet timeless environment.
Custom cabinetry was integrated along the perimeter, with carefully aligned door proportions and clean lines that establish a cohesive architectural presence. The light-toned countertops and continuous backsplash enhance the sense of openness while maintaining a refined, unified material palette.
Layered lighting, including concealed LED strips, provides both functional illumination and subtle ambient depth, highlighting surfaces without overwhelming the space. The central island serves as the functional and visual anchor of the kitchen, improving workflow while naturally connecting to the surrounding living areas.
All phases of the project — from design and material selection to installation — were completed by our in-house team, ensuring precision, consistency, and full quality control without outsourcing.

Megan Alderson from Reico Kitchen and Bath in Salem, VA, designed a modern kitchen and powder room featuring Ultracraft cabinetry.
The kitchen includes Ultracraft cabinets in the Adriatic door style with a Shark finish, paired with Cambria Portrush quartz countertops and a full-height backsplash. The powder room features the same door style in an Edgewater High Gloss finish.
Megan shared, “We reworked the layout to improve workflow by removing an island, relocating the range, and moving the refrigerator. The selections were beautiful and perfect for a lake house!
They wanted a focal point on the back of the peninsula, so we used molding to create an architectural detail. Ultracraft didn’t offer this type of panel, so we got creative to achieve a reeded panel look. The clients had a clear vision, and we worked together to bring it to life. It was a labor-intensive process, but the result was worth it!”

A beautiful kitchen update for a lovely family home in Windsor Ridge. The overall footprint is the same, but changing the layout by relocating the refrigerator and microwave creates a better workflow. The island was custom designed to serve as the show piece of this modern but classic space. Photos and design by Nichole Weaver, Interior Designer

Design objectives for the remodel were aimed at maximizing the flow and functionality of a foodie-level kitchen with multiple cooks, while enhancing the family’s preferences for spending time in the space together:
Create a better workflow
Space out the appliances for better use of the kitchen area
Make the space feel larger visually
Update all materials so the kitchen isn’t all wood
No seating at an island or peninsula
Larger walkways
Brighten up the space with more lights and lighter colors
THE REMODEL
Design challenges to be solved:
The idea was to work within the current walls of the kitchen. Without removing walls, it was more of a challenge to give the kitchen a larger, new feel.
An island in the middle area was part of the original vision. Could a different countertop arrangement incorporate the same purpose?
The homeowners are big cooks so creating room for a larger refrigerator and more countertop space by the range were musts!
The sink and range were originally right next to each other, making things tough for two cooks to work at the same time. How could the new space allow for two work areas while minimizing traffic jams?
THE RENEWED SPACE
Design solutions fell into place once the overall layout was revamped to improve flow and functionality:
The refrigerator was originally in the middle of the main walkway. To gain more walk space and room for a larger refrigerator, we moved this appliance to the back wall.
The final design still has a peninsula but we flipped it to the opposite wall. This way, the walkway is more accommodating for traffic entering and exiting through the back garage door. This also gave way to a longer run of countertop space along the cooking wall.
To take cooking to another level, we implemented a speed oven!
The large window by the eating area is also nice for cooks to see, so we kept the sink in the peninsula.
To gain space for storage and make the kitchen feel larger, we brought the wall cabinets all the way to the ceiling. What once felt tight now feels grand!

This stair designed by KITE Architects was constructed to unify two floors of a rapidly expanding tech company, in the heart of downtown Providence, Rhode Island. It is constructed of painted steel stringers, tubing and plate, and features industrial vulcanized rubber treads and stainless cable railings. Concentric fabricated and installed this stair from start to finish, working alongside MPM properties, ensuring that there was no disruption to the daily workflow of the tech company that remained in residence throughout the renovation.

This kitchen remodel was designed to make a statement—balancing bold character with refined craftsmanship to create a space that’s both highly functional and visually unforgettable.
At the heart of the design is a striking contrast palette. Crisp white perimeter cabinetry keeps the space bright and open, while rich black lower cabinets and a substantial island ground the room with depth and sophistication. The oversized island serves as both a functional workspace and a central gathering point, topped with a dramatic stone surface that adds movement and texture.
The flooring plays a defining role in the overall aesthetic. A custom black-and-white patterned tile layout introduces energy and personality, transforming the kitchen into a true design centerpiece while maintaining a timeless appeal. This bold foundation is thoughtfully balanced by clean lines, classic shaker cabinetry, and elegant hardware selections.
Functionality was a key driver throughout the project. The layout maximizes workflow efficiency with dedicated zones for cooking, prep, and cleanup. A professional-grade range anchors the island, while the farmhouse sink positioned beneath large windows brings in natural light and enhances the everyday experience. Custom storage solutions—including extended cabinetry, integrated dish storage, and built-in appliance areas—ensure everything has its place without compromising the clean aesthetic.
Lighting was carefully layered to elevate both form and function. Statement pendant fixtures above the island add architectural interest, while recessed lighting provides consistent illumination throughout the space.
The result is a kitchen that feels both elevated and livable—where bold design choices meet practical everyday use. It’s a space designed not just to cook in, but to gather, entertain, and truly enjoy.

With its low-slung gables and unique clerestory, this modern Craftsman exterior home plan is distinctively appealing. Double doors open into the living space where the great room, dining room, and kitchen blend together. Retreating glass doors present rear views and expand living outdoors seamlessly. This home plan's kitchen layout promotes easy workflow and casual entertaining, and the nearby mud and utility rooms are tucked away near the garage. The master suite is fully appointed and situated across the home plan from two secondary bedrooms which share a Jack-and-Jill bathroom.

Every kitchen remodel is rewarding, but when we saw the skylights go in the new vaulted ceiling on this job it was a STUNNING improvement! So much spaciousness and natural light, we love it. Also featured are the fantastic custom cabinets, and new appliances. A better workflow, an island table for extra workspace and an improved view into the dining area were part of the project as well. The clients tell us that many days, they don't even turn the lights on until evening. LOVE it!

Sometimes a room just bestows a calm feeling upon all those entering. The clean lines and crisp palette of the Medallion Cabinetry in this bright kitchen flow seamlessly with the beautiful grain of the wooden floating shelves and island counter top. As always, our cabinet layout was designed with great attention to workflow efficiency, and the owners have expressed appreciation for the ease they feel in their kitchen. Stainless steel appliances keep it looking sharp, while the espresso machine does double duty as textural centerpiece and essential beverage hub.

The space that the living room is currently in once used to be the kitchen. It is a narrow space that didn’t offer efficient workflow and therefore we swapped places with the living room and kitchen. Now this space emphasizes symmetry with a beautiful contemporary gas fireplace that is flanked by custom shelving and two identical plush sofas. It’s not only a great place for the family to hang out in, but is a comfortable conversation area when entertaining.

Before: The original kitchen felt dated and confined by its intrusive peninsula. Builder-grade cabinets offered little storage, the awkward split sink disrupted workflow, and outdated square tile surfaces contributed to the cramped and uninviting feel. With small appliances scattered across limited counter space and dim lighting throughout, our client struggled to make the space functional for daily use.

Storage & Organization Enhancements
The new kitchen German engineered kitchen was designed to be efficient and function seamlessly for both everyday family routines and for small and large gatherings. Storage was maximized and dedicated task zones established to optimize workflow throughout the reimagined 1925 Tudor home. The peninsula provides casual countertop seating, and graciously defines the kitchen area from the living space, keeping sight lines open and airy.
The area beneath the staircase was skillsfully customized to extend the kitchen work space and provide even more storage solutions.
The upper wall and lower base cabinetry features the Miro line in Mohair, which introduces a soft, earthy tone to the perimeter walls. This is balanced by the tall cabinet units that showcase the Synthia line in Japanese Pine, bringing a warm wood-textured elegance to the vertical spaces. Both collections incorporate the Advance handleless system, seamlessly blending clean architectural beauty with everyday functionality.
The design is further complemented by carefully curated stone surfaces. The soft Emerstone Calacata Sereno quartz countertops alongside a striking Arabescato Corchia honed marble backsplash, adds natural movement and luxury. To complete the culinary design, premium Miele appliances are used.

This bright and happy kitchen was once very dark and without a functional layout. There was a wall where the refrigerator is going across the room and a peninsula where the mirror is located with a range. We opened it all up and created a much more functional workflow.

This 3,738 Square Foot custom home resides on a lush, wooded hillside overlooking Arbutus Lake. The clients wanted to thoughtfully combine a “lodge” and “cottage” feel to their space. The home’s style has been affectionately and effectively called “Cott-odge” A beautiful blend of neutrals compose the home’s color palette to reflect the surrounding setting’s stone, sands, woods and water. White casework and rustic knotty beams round out the careful blend of “cott-odge” style. The great room’s multi-colored ledge stone fireplace and large beams create a cozy space to gather with family, while the efficient kitchen adorned with custom cabinetry accommodates optimal work-flow. The pairing of the varied styles creates an inviting lakeside, family retreat.

2013 Tour of Remodeled Home #13
This was a great home, but it was in desperate need of a kitchen remodel by Fleming Construction LLC because the original design was bulky and lacked efficiency.
"The owners needed space to cook and bake for a large family and home daycare. By removing a dysfunctional island and installing a peninsula we were able to increase workflow in the kitchen. Replacing the desk space with a 64” refrigerator and flanking it with pantries, we added a ton of storage space. We updated the old butler’s pantry into a beverage bar and spruced up
the powder room.
