Client requested a more sustainable landscape rather than the tropical plants they kept replacing each year after a freeze. We ripped out all the queen palms along with previous landscape. Kept the sago palms and added a whole new look. A collection of: orange rocket barberry, everillo, japanese blueberry, crimson red azalea, knockout roses and santa barbara salvia.

Many years ago we designed and constructed the swimming pool for the previous homeowners at this Highland Park home. The current homeowner was interested in remodeling their side yard to create a new outdoor living area including a custom water feature. Based on their feedback, we were able to design and construct the custom limestone fountain you see here.

Reverse Shed Eichler This project is part tear-down, part remodel. The original L-shaped plan allowed the living/ dining/ kitchen wing to be completely re-built while retaining the shell of the bedroom wing virtually intact. The rebuilt entertainment wing was enlarged 50% and covered with a low-slope reverse-shed roof sloping from eleven to thirteen feet. The shed roof floats on a continuous glass clerestory with eight foot transom. Cantilevered steel frames support wood roof beams with eaves of up to ten feet. An interior glass clerestory separates the kitchen and livingroom for sound control. A wall-to-wall skylight illuminates the north wall of the kitchen/family room. New additions at the back of the house add several “sliding” wall planes, where interior walls continue past full-height windows to the exterior, complimenting the typical Eichler indoor-outdoor ceiling and floor planes. The existing bedroom wing has been re-configured on the interior, changing three small bedrooms into two larger ones, and adding a guest suite in part of the original garage. A previous den addition provided the perfect spot for a large master ensuite bath and walk-in closet. Natural materials predominate, with fir ceilings, limestone veneer fireplace walls, anigre veneer cabinets, fir sliding windows and interior doors, bamboo floors, and concrete patios and walks. The large outdoor deck has a large barrel vault awning allowing for use all year round. The previous guardrails were all replaced with glass panels to allow for unobstructed views from the wrought iron lounge chairs.

Our clients bought this 20-year-old mountain home after it had been on the market for six years. Their tastes were simple, mid-century contemporary, and the previous owners tended toward more bright Latin wallpaper aesthetics, Corinthian columns, etc. The home’s many levels are connected through several interesting staircases. The original, traditional wooden newel posts, balusters and handrails, were all replaced with simpler cable railings. The fireplace was wrapped in rustic, reclaimed wood. The load-bearing wall between the kitchen and living room was removed, and all new cabinets, counters, and appliances were installed.

This remodel is a stunning 100-year-old Wayzata home! The home’s history was embraced while giving the home a refreshing new look. Every aspect of this renovation was thoughtfully considered to turn the home into a "DREAM HOME" for generations to enjoy. Turning around in the bathroom, one can get a look at the lovely and spacious vanity. In the space it resembles furniture and has a fantastic amount of storage space. The vanity top is a granite piece with a silver blue color to match the previously displayed tile work, as well as the ceramic tile floor and the blue and white walls. This is a subtle, elegant piece that is light years ahead of the monstrosity of the previous bathroom.

Having designed the kitchen in their previous home (see Davis Rockwell Kitchen) - which they loved for many years – this couple came back to us with one main request, to design a similar but more upscale interpretation for their new home. As with the previous kitchen, the clients wanted an open space for entertaining and dedicated areas to showcase their large collection of art pieces. The existing builder grade kitchen didn’t fit their personal style or wish list. Knowing that the client’s intention was for this house to be their forever home, it was vital to give them a design that worked well now as well as for future needs. Knowing they love to entertain, we recommended a 5’ Galley Workstation for its flexibility to serve a variety of tasks from everyday wash station to party central with just a quick change of accessories. Located in the heart of the home, the kitchen is visible from all angles and needed to present a clean, flush look with the cabinets and appliances. Special features include LED strip lighting in the upper niche cabinets to highlight special art pieces. Beautiful walnut panels wrap the cabinetry and serve a dual purpose around the fold-up wall cabinets by the cooktop; they provide just enough depth for custom spice shelves.
