The rainwater catchment system was an exciting design challenge. In search of both form and function, we found the perfect combination in a Japanese design of rain chains and stone, which are traditionally used as decorative downspouts for temples and homes. Two copper rain chains hang from the front corners of the portico, guiding the cascading water from the roof into stone basins, which catch and channel the water into an underground drainage system.

Rainwater playfully dances and flows down these handcrafted copper channels as it is guided from the rooftop to the ground. You will pray for rain once you attach your Rain Chain. A natural patina will develop on the polished copper styles over time, adding to the character and charm of these delightful chains.

This is an example of a large modern front porch design in Miami with decking and a roof extension.

This 1960 house was in need of updating from both design and performance standpoints, and the project turned into a comprehensive deep energy retrofit, with thorough airtightness and insulation, new space conditioning and energy-recovery-ventilation, triple glazed windows, and an interior of incredible elegance. While we maintained the foundation and overall massing, this is essentially a new house, well equipped for a new generation of use and enjoyment.
