This 1956 John Calder Mackay home had been poorly renovated in years past. We kept the 1400 sqft footprint of the home, but re-oriented and re-imagined the bland white kitchen to a midcentury olive green kitchen that opened up the sight lines to the wall of glass facing the rear yard. We chose materials that felt authentic and appropriate for the house: handmade glazed ceramics, bricks inspired by the California coast, natural white oaks heavy in grain, and honed marbles in complementary hues to the earth tones we peppered throughout the hard and soft finishes. This project was featured in the Wall Street Journal in April 2022.

This is a 60" x 34" size shower [8' wall height] with a 12" x 24" porcelain tile set using a running bond pattern with a 1/8"th inch grout spacing. This porcelain tile is made to look like a Calcutta Marble and it does.

This living space is structured around an open layout with expansive views toward the water, anchored by a full-length sliding glass wall that opens directly onto a paved patio and private in-ground pool. The vaulted ceiling features recessed lighting and a sculptural brass chandelier suspended over the main seating zone. Pale oak plank flooring is installed in a staggered pattern, running wall-to-wall and transitioning into a textured area rug that defines the lounge footprint. Furniture is arranged for both conversation and outdoor visibility, with paired accent chairs, a two-seat sofa, and dual glass-top coffee tables placed on a continuous axis parallel to the window wall. Upholstery patterns vary subtly between seating types to maintain visual texture without breaking cohesion. The adjacent kitchen features white shaker cabinetry, pendant lighting, and a central island with integrated seating. Overall, the space balances traditional trim detail with updated materials and clean circulation paths throughout.

Contemporary interpolation to a classical bathroom. The materials used here is Marble... yes Marble! we have gray sandblasted marble on the floor in Versailles pattern to give the bathroom floor depth and sensation of space, we used pure high grade Thasos marble cut to 18x6 too be placed in a staggered pattern (brick pattern) Just look at that pure white marble look. To finish the edges installation of a pencil liner from same material and to add some trim a gray marble linear trim line was installed with same color pencil liner to border it. The classical furniture vanity comes in dark gray to compliment the flooring and the top is the classical Carrara marble material. Notice the bi-fold doors on the right, looks like a linen cabinet but it’s not. Due to lack of space in the house (this is a small craftsman home in the hills of Glendale) we were requested to bring the laundry from the basement to the house and so we did. Those bi-fold doors you are looking at are hiding the stackable washer and dryer. To finish everything off all the fixtures are in a great Kohler vibrant polished nickel finish.

An under used whirlpool tub and inefficient layout were rectified by removing the tub and outdated glass block shower to create a generous walk-in shower area and dual vanity with built ins for storage. Woods and textured materials add warmth and sophistication to the space.

Transformed a very 1980's bathroom that was in peach and green into a beautiful contemporary modern bathroom. Remove the deck tub with a larger shower and free standing tub. The tile in the shower is porcelain in 32" x 32" that looks like marble. The vanity countertop material is quartz from Cambria with a unique diamond style backsplash in marble. The floor are 12" x 24" porcelain tile in a staggered pattern. The wall color is a beautiful grayish; Dunn Edwards/Cloud. Removed corner units above the vanity and full length mirrors and replaced them with metal framed mirrors, adding sconces. The vanity is custom made. I designed it to give my clients the most storage possible. There are pullouts under each sink and a shelf above that with a cut out for the plumbing, to give my clients even more storage. The homeowner's wide range of tastes coalesces in this lovely kitchen and mudroom. Vintage, modern, English, and mid-century styles form one eclectic and alluring space. Rift-sawn white oak cabinets in warm almond, textured white subway tile, white island top, and a custom white range hood lend lots of brightness while black perimeter countertops and a Laurel Woods deep green finish on the island and beverage bar balance the palette with a unique twist on farmhouse style.
