Dining room - coastal dining room idea in New York with blue walls

This adorable beach cottage is in the heart of the village of La Jolla in San Diego. The goals were to brighten up the space and be the perfect beach get-away for the client whose permanent residence is in Arizona. Some of the ways we achieved the goals was to place an extra high custom board and batten in the great room and by refinishing the kitchen cabinets (which were in excellent shape) white. We created interest through extreme proportions and contrast. Though there are a lot of white elements, they are all offset by a smaller portion of very dark elements. We also played with texture and pattern through wallpaper, natural reclaimed wood elements and rugs. This was all kept in balance by using a simplified color palate minimal layering. I am so grateful for this client as they were extremely trusting and open to ideas. Arched brick ceiling with a custom made light fixture. The owners found the parts for this light fixture over the island and had a local artist create this one of a kind fixture. The table with the seating is made from an old bowling alley lane. The pin placement marks can still be seen on the table top. The table is free standing so it can be moved off the island if desired. This small but very detailed space has all the wonderful accommodations needed for an urban rooftop. Flat screen TV, grill, heat lamp, fire table, and storage. We took the pattern from the chair and recreated it in the fire table. This custom table ties it all together nicely. All while siting in a lush garden that surrounds the seating area. Making it cozy and colorful.

The Dining Room table and chairs are custom. The colors are soothing and inviting and the chandelier is just plain fun. We echoed the crystal from the chandelier on the ball finials for the window treatments. Grass cloth wallpaper adds another layer of texture in the room. Photo by Eric Roth

We used traditional design elements, warm worn finishes, along with french industrial lighting fixtures to bring a magical element to this space.
