We partnered with Emerick Architects on the remodel of our kitchen and the transformation of our large backyard and were thrilled with their ideas, design knowledge, their professionalism and especially with the outcome. Our 1908 house is on the historic registry and we knew we’d need a firm with experience navigating the various permitting processes. The staff at Emerick are pros at this. The challenge was to transform our very dated 1980’s kitchen into a modern space that also reflected our Craftsman home’s historic character. Our remodel design involved the removal of a wall, opening up the kitchen to the rest of the house and the installation of a large pair of windows that look out at the backyard. The back of the house was re-configured so we now have a large patio outside the kitchen door, and a new entrance way with a coat room which can be accessed from the back driveway. It’s mind-boggling how many choices there are before and during a remodel. Melody Emerick was a joy to work with because she was happy to dive in with input and ideas when we needed help, and also willing to step back when we didn’t. I also appreciated the fact that the Emerick team checked in regularly throughout the entire remodel (which lasted the better part of a year), making sure that the contractors delivered on the architect’s vision.

Our project with Emerick Architects was a very good experience. There were glitches, as there are in many projects, but Melody and the other members of her company were always available with their knowledge and experience to address the issues as they arose . The deadlines and budgets that we had agreed upon were met and each member of the team provided us with a level of professionalism that made it a positive experience.

We worked with Emerick on a full house remodel. From beginning to end we enjoyed working with Melody & Justin . We most appreciated the attention to detail and their ability to keep all those details organized. Their ability to think ahead helped construction get done as smoothly as possible. We also were thankful that they both understood our vision to keep the house as original as possible but also making it functional for our needs. I cannot imagine working with better people during the entire process.

Melody listened well to what we wanted and did an excellent job of remaining consistent with our mid-century architecture. We love the results! She has a great team who truly care about their work and delivering results that keep their clients happy.

Emerick gives you 5 star service. For our whole house remodel project, the president of the firm worked with us on the big picture concept, presenting several option sketches. Then a talented staff architect was assigned to work on the drawings. They both stay involved throughout the building process, and are very responsive and thorough. An in-house designer will source materials for you to envision your space and help with design elements and choices. I've been impressed with this level of service and will never do another project without the services of a firm like Emerick Architects.

Emerick Architects guided us through a bathroom remodel project this year. The most important thing they did for us was to completely re conceive the space and bring us options we could never have imagined - all within our budget. As we got into detailed design, their staff worked with us on materials and color, saving us so much time and bringing our vision to life. Throughout the building process, Emerick worked seamlessly with the builder to work through the inevitable surprises. They were calm, solution oriented, and always available.

We worked with Emerick Architects on an extensive, whole house remodel. Per usual with construction, we encountered issues with the house that Melody, Diane and the entire team at Emerick found solutions resulting in a better finished product. Melody Emerick and Geno Salimena worked with us on 2 separate phases of a home remodeling project. Every step of the way, these architects were professional, timely, and efficient. We were ushered through the design thru building phases with many on-site visits and minutes were kept and emailed after every meeting as the projects progressed. We just love Emerick Architect style and taste and their commitment to quality and honoring the vintage of our home while bringing in modern living amenities. They were incredible about knowing what would and would not work for our space and had definite opinions on design options and even finishes, which we appreciated. Finally, everyone we worked with (especially Melody and Geno) were just wonderful people who kept us laughing through the tough parts the remodel (such as spousal differences of opinion and living sans kitchen for months.) They clearly love Portland and have contributed beauty to many buildings and homes in our city, and we can't recommend them highly enough. :)

We hired Emerick Architects to do a full floor master-suite remodel while I was 7 months pregnant. That last bit is important because I was emotional, impatient, and there were (of course) construction delays on the contractor's end. My husband and I met with a few architects but immediately clicked with Melody Emerick. She is calm, measured, thoughtful, but not hesitant to express her opinion when it is sought. The plans she drew up for us were creative and reflected her understanding of our needs and our expectations for the space. And we valued Melody's unerring opinion on aesthetic issues, from everything to how the tile pattern should be laid, to the color of the paint. The final product is a beautiful, calming space where I wish I could spend all of my time. Melody and Juliette were responsive, always showed up on time, and have been around to answer questions long after our remodel concluded. We will work with them again for a kitchen remodel in future. I cannot recommend Emerick Architects highly enough.

Melody and Geno were amazing! They were extremely professional, artistic, responsive and brought our dream house to life. Incredibly easy to communicate with and met with us and our builder at almost every site meeting. They were always available if the builder had any questions about the plans and continued to clarify/communicate with us throughout this 9 month whole house remodel. I would absolutely use Emerick again and continue to give their names to anyone looking for a fantastic architect both from a professional and esthetic viewpoint.

We hired Emerick Architects recently to do a major remodel on our 1908 Foursquare home. The Emerick Team were very professional and fun to work with. The great communication was a big help in easing the stress for us managing through a project like this. They also worked well with our Contractor, True Blue Construction & Remodeling. We're absolutely thrilled with the finished product. Our new improved home is a joy to live in.
