Project: develop plans for the remodel of a 1941 Cape Cod bungalow. Chris came up with creative solutions to limitations I thought were imposed by the original style of architecture. He was able to think outside of the Cape Cod box while maintaining the original footprint of the house. A pretty neat trick. Count me impressed.

I used Chris to build an ADU (studio apartment and garage) in my backyard. I gained greater appreciation for Chris's talents once the project was complete and his concept was turned into reality. Chris demonstrated his architectural abilities in selecting a building style, defining its scale and choosing materials and colors that complimented the main house. We love our ADU and how it fits with the main house. All our friends are super impressed and love our backyard setting. All the compliments belong to Chris. We were very pleased with Chris's architectural services and would definitely use him again.

Chris exactly what we had hoped for in the design and construction advise in building our new modern home. Chris designed an office for me and I am happy with the design. I purchased a "plain vanilla" office condo in the Pearl District, consisting of a large room with concrete walls and floors. The design he worked up is very open, comfortable, and welcoming. it is also highly functional as a professional office. It has a unique and hip "Northwest" feel to it because there is skillful use of glass, plexiglass and varnished fir trim.

My husband and I purchased our future Portland retirement condo for its breathtaking river views. The '80s designed condo was in need of a total over-haul. We were residing out-of-state and therefore it was imperative to find an architect who was not only trustworthy and an excellent communicator, but also a great listener whose concern was fulfilling our vision. I evaluated several architects based on design and quality of their workmanship and found everything I was looking for in Sunswallow Design. I called the owner Chris Robinson, we had an extensive and enjoyable conversation. Chris listened to my ideas and his suggestions were right on. We were a perfect fit. Chris was our eyes during the remodeling process and communicated consistently. Chris is a true professional. Chris Robinson of SunSwallow Design was a life saver! Chris had the vision and understanding of what we envisioned in a home, and was tireless in giving us many different options and making sure we had a unique and tailor made home. Chris understood and met all deadlines, and this was particularly important in dealing with our insurance company (as a result of a major house fire). Chris created a design that opened our home up to our yard and this included a blue print for our paint of 26 colors that I can follow even today, 10 years later, to touch up. During construction, Chris was patient when we decided to change something, and made himself available to us, many times even late at night, since we both worked during the day. When we moved into the home after construction, we realized how well Chris had used light and various colors of paint on different walls to keep the home bright and warm. Chris truly listened to what we needed, and had an understanding that we wanted a modern, yet warm, home to defend us against Oregon's gray winters. We also realized how livable the home was once we moved in as the dishwasher door can open at the same time as the cupboard drawers being opened for easy access of loading and unloading! The house is airy and open and accommodates a small family or group of 100 for a party surprisingly well! Chris was also our tireless defender and watchdog during the construction, checking many times during the week and weekend, as the structure went up, to make sure drywall was correctly applied and smooth, or skylights evenly spaced, or medicine cabinets at the correct level and spacing in the bathrooms. He went with us to the suppliers stores and helped us select handles or order granite. He brought samples back if we were too busy, so we could select from home out of his samples. Chris was also very fair on his billing, making him much more affordable in the end and when you think of the lifetime of your home ownership. Since construction of our home we have used Chris and SunSwallow Design at least twice more to help use with other design issues, which resulted again in a wonderful result! SunSwallow Design designed two homes for my wife and I. The two homes were located in radically different neighborhoods, one in Swampscott MA, a suburb of Boston, and the other in Madison WI. The Wisconsin home overlooks a lake in downtown Madison. We have also hired Chris for other projects after the entire redesign. If we had a third home to do we would hire Chris again to do it. SunSwallow was sensitive and responsive to the ideas that we had and worked closely with us to bring them to fruition. He was also knowledgeable concerning certain structural changes that we discovered that needed remedy as we progressed with the project. We received very good value and have recommended SunSwallow to others. The house was also featured in a special tour of distinctive Madison homes sponsored by Attic Angels.

We thank Chris everyday for transforming our modest ranch house into a serene retreat. He simply brought the outside "inside" and still kept the integrity of our existing ranch house. I wanted a big kitchen, my husband wanted a large living area and a library......we both wanted a master ensuite and the washer and dryer out of the garage! Working with Chris was a pleasure as we explored the many directions we could take before deciding the final draw. Although at times I was drowning in a puddle of remodel nerves, Chris was very gracious and patient with me and I learned a lot in the process.
