Boy, this is one of those times when a picture would really help. While I'm not a matchy girl, I do think there should be some symmetry framing that fireplace. I'm going to suggest that you choose to go with the raw steel finish on the new cabinet and be sure to create some balance on the shorter side (maybe a shelf over it?).

thanks Anne.... I ordered it in raw steel. I hung pictures over the short cabinet. I will find my camera because the rest of my house needs to be tweaked.
