They make refrigerators that are ready to accept a custom panel and they have to have one to look finished.

some refrigerators can be bought panel-ready. some can be bought black, white, s/s panel- ready. but, be careful, we couldnt purchase a panel for our new frig because the manufacturer only made black panel-ready frigs, and our kitchen will be white. the frig is counter depth so the black would show up quite alot against white cabinets. so we had to buy a stainless steel frig instead. i really wanted panels, would have made my kitchen look really nice, but...i have to compromise.
