The current kitchen seems fine. Perhaps replace the countertop wit granite with it's time to do so.

Thank you for your advice. The countertops are laminate and I want to change them before we move in. I am not really sure what color quartz or granite will go with my cherry cabinets and not compromise the craftsman style.

When you get a new Counter, don't do a 6" backsplash. It Looks so cheap. Do something, different or the same material, the whole way up to the wall cabinets. Take a drawer with you when looking for countertop material so you can find something that compliments it. What style are you going for in the end? Can you put a Panel on that White dishwasher so it blends in better? It really jumps out at you.

Thank you Lori. My style for my kitchen is bright and welcoming. I hate a dark kitchen. We bought new stainless for the appliances. I love your idea for the backsplash.

Oh no, and you have dark cherry cabinets. :( Shoot. I love bright and welcoming too. I also have dark cabinets, but they are 30 years old and will be replaced in 5 years or so. If you like bright, you will probably want to paint the walls something other than the beige that is on them.

If you Google (or look on Houzz) for Counter tops for cherry cabinets, you will find a ton of ideas. Most are dark, but you will find a few that have lighter, brighter Options and look great.

I love the dark cherry cabinets! Just did a complete kitchen remodel and went with the cherry myself. I have Juperana Gold Granite counter tops and the look fab with the cherry, The backsplash is a travertine tile in a subway tile layout.
