I always use semi gloss paint. I have been painting for 22 years and never had a problem until I used a this behr primer and paint in one combination.

Did you wash your walls good? As Sophie mentioned, if you don't, you end up with peeling paint.

An easy way to get the paint off is with a blower dryer. When you get it to the point no more will come off, sand the edges as smooth as possible, wash the walls, prime and repaint.

When we bought our house, the former owners had just painted to insure a quick sale, but they didn't bother to do any prep work so we moved in to a house with a peeling ceiling in the kitchen and dining room. They also painted around the couch and bed so we had to repaint several rooms just to have a home we could live in.

Paint has changed a lot over time. Change with it, and practice best practice prep techniques.

I would not paint a dog house with Behr or Valspar products.

Fact is, I turn down all jobs when people buy or request it. Having to apply 3 or 4 coats just to cover a wall only to watch it start bubbling up and peeling before you're even finished is not my idea quality product. Nor something I want my name on.

Finally, I knew I wasn’t the only one! I painted my office with Behr in a deep teal in Oct. 2018 I wanted just their middle line product, but the base I needed was out of stock, so they subbed their Marquee. It went on like tacky glue. Zero working time, but bad coverage. I used two coats, but was considering three. In Feb ‘19 it started peeling off in large sheets. It never hardened. To this day it’s still rubbery. It’s easy to blame bad prep, but it’s not even adhering to itself. The second coat peels off the first like a bad sunburn. I’ve left it alone all this time hoping it will eventually harden enough to dare repainting. Now that we’re mainly done with our big remodel I’m ready (kind of) to tackle it again. I was tempted to just try a really great primer and hope it stays put, but my gut says it’s going to turn into a shitshow. I’ve actually seriously considered pulling the walls down and putting up new drywall. This post gave me an idea to scrub them clean, but that sounds like more effort than new drywall! Very curious to hear if you or others have found reasonable solutions.

I should add, for the record, that i contacted Behr right away and i didnt even finish explaining what was wrong before the rep knew exactly what was wrong - which tells me they know full-well their paint is junk. She offered to give us new paint, but without saying it directly, she made it clear they know how to wiggle out of liability. I also met with a rep for another brand who explained there are a couple reasons paints are failing like this. the first is the rush to offer low VOCs is eliminating those substances that are needed to get better adherence and hardening. the second was a bit unexpected. in order to get deeper, more intense colors they have to remove solids. it made sense once I thought about it. Still, Behr is particularly crappy, as paint goes. I’ll never use it again.

i’m trying to paint, but having issue with paint peeling do i need to get all the paint off or can i just sand walls until i have most of the paint off, and should i prime the wall before painting again.
