Hard to see the granite but can you pick up any of the accent colors in the granite with the glass tile back splash? For the new cabinet facings, I personally like basic brown more than cherry but that is just a matter of preference unless one or the other works better with the colors in the granite, floor, paint - can't tell from this pic.

Have you thought about going with a painted cabinet? With your warm granite, a nice crisp white would look so fresh on your cabinets.

I have the same 90's oak cupboards. I may paint some black or white, or both. I like rustic so may have a different point of view. Whatever I paint will be scuffed and antiqued and I want hardware. Someone suggested replacing a couple doors with ones with glass.

I like tareyc's idea. Why don't you give that product a try before you change the doors. I think you will also have to change the colors of crown molding etc. To me, your cabinets and back splash look nice. Further, new products (cabinet doors & back splash) installed next to old products (molding, granite, floors etc) often exposes both the new & the old to their worst advantage. I have cherry and like it, it seemed to have more life than the brown...

thanks for the comments! The sample cabinet doors in the pic are actually resurfacing of the existing doors! I think he did a great job on the samples as they do look new and like an original finish. I have to make a decision soon! Then seems the trim painter wants to charge a lot to paint the mouldings etc he says the prep over the stain is time consuming....anyone have any experience with that?

He *did* do a nice job. I think I like the one on the right, but they're both nice and quite close. So the trim will be painted white with the wood cabinets? Maybe the cabinet guy can do the trim, too? Or what about the rustoleum product on the trim (Tareyc's idea).

It seems you have made a decision, but there is a kit in home depot with paint finishes, antique the door if they were white you could rub in color on the edges. It is a great kit, but I would do a cream color and soften the edges with this antique color which might let you play around with the molding, rubbing in a white stain to the oak. I want to say it was a Martha Stewart product. Have you thought of opening up the top by cutting out the center a d you could put glass, grill, iron pattern, almost anything.
