Is it too late to transplant strawberry runners (zone 5) that have already rooted. I plan to mulch the bed well with straw, grass clippings and leaves before freezing weather sets in.

Also, is it best to trim most leaves off the established plants before mulching? I've been told to just go over the bed with a lawn mower...not sure I can do that but could use a clippers.

I might add that this is a new berry patch...set out 12 plants in May and now have quite a large area filled with plants.

Any help for a new strawberry grower would be appreciated.
