I love your black and white table! If you want to take it more contemporary, I'd use the white chairs. If you want to have a cushion to sit on, I'd use the black one with a white cushion. The black one appears to be taller and would therefore offer some black above table height which I would like to see, tho you could do that with accessories.

I think blk chairs, white cushions as well. If no cushions then blk chairs otherwise it would just be a pair of blk legs sticking out of everything white and if you go with blk chairs then the focal point goes to the top where you will display a centerpiece or plates

I have the black ones, they are really hard to sit in for long. I added some upholstery and it was much better. You can't beat them for cheap & chic though...

Paint the chairs you have in a color instead of black or white. Or if you need new chairs I like the white style, I have a farmhouse table with Eames (knock off) chairs and I like the look.

I would go with the ones you have as well. Right now spindle chairs are very in, and it's very simple to paint chairs with a paint sprayer (home improvement stores carry them for about $40). Personally I would tape off the bottom 1/3 of the leg and spray the rest of the chair white for a dipped look.

igrid, it wasn't very hard at all. first i separated the legs, sanded the legs and table down to take off all the shiny coating. then use an odorless primer and prime everything. wait to dry at 4 hours. then paint 2 coats. i used benjamin moore black and simply white paint.

Find someone who sells Annie Sloan's Chalk paint - no more sanding, removing varnish, etc. Just paint over varnished areas - bingo - new look without the blood sweat and tears! Paint your old ones black with bold black & white print cushions! If you want contemporary look go with the white ones (I love those chairs!). Would love to see finished look - be sure to post!

Funny- I'm in the same dilemma in my own home right now. I have 10 matching spindle chairs that I'm not planning on replacing, but I want to mix things up a bit and change out the table. Looking for the perfect solution for tablecloth-free gatherings which could multitask as a work space, when needed. My search continues...

Definitely use the black chairs (or paint existing chairs black). They are best suited for that table style. Others are too contemporary. As others mentioned, a black and white patterened cushion (either bigger floral print, or more subtle...just thought of black and white "ticking" cushion for some reason. Maybe a dirtied-down white like typical ticking looks (meaning not white,white-with the black stripe). Would show less dirt. Or any other subtle black/white combo-maybe even a tweedy look-would not show dirt much at all, as opposed to a bold floral. Could change up the cushions depending on the season! Table looks terrific! Great tip on the chalk paint!! Always dread the sanding, so, I put off the painting. That idea gives me hope! :D

I love the bench idea against the wall and two of your existing chairs opposite - painted white. The advantage to the bench is that you'll be able to move the table closer to the wall which will give you more clearance for the door.

You seem resourceful, I bet you could find cool one on Craigslist or at a thrift store to make over.

Paint your current chairs white, but I like the photo just above; were the seats left "natural"? Now there's an idea. Frankly, the modern white chair looks too spindly for anyone with weight (think about who you're likely to invite to dinner; are any of them heavy?) and, frankly, uncomfortable.

Personally, I'd paint the chairs a color. Deep red. Chili pepper. chrome yellow, turquoise (very in right now). lime. cobalt blue.

Very good DYI work with the table!! I agree about the chairs, if they are in good shape, paint them using some splash color that make you happy and suit with the rest of the space.

I would spray paint the ones you already have using a lacquer. Then you can use any color cushion you wnat depending on the season, occassion, or just mood. Red, Cobalt Blue, Orange, the possibilities would be endless.

Having done such a great job on the table, I would go ahead and paint the chairs too.

You could also do something like this and change the mood of the dining table every so often, Also green cushion on the seats would go really well too with a green table runner.. you can always change it.

I definitely think the black with a stain resistant black and white bold print cushion. An all white cushion unless its a easy wash stain resistant material would be a pain. The white chairs i would like better if you have a really dark stained floor.

legs of table are traditional so i'd continue taht with black chair - or same in bright red!
