Wow. Thx for telling me that. I would not have thought the glass would compete. The tumbled tile that is so popular right now always seems as if it would absorb grease or dirt and so I was looking for a shiny surface. Am I wrong?

With regards to the tumbled tile: If your thinking of doing a travertine, as long as you seal it you will be good to go. I do not suggest doing a light marble, even if you do a sealer they end up staining. The key is to spend the money on a GREAT sealer. Then you won't spend the money on replacing stained tiles.

If you want a simple ceramic, shiny surface tile that won't compete with your Typhoon bordeaux granite, try a glossy subway tile in one of the lighter colors in the granite. It will look classic.

We have done travertine in a honed subway with Typhoon Bordeaux and it worked nicely. In between a glossy tile and the tumbled mentioned above. Need to stay in the cream tones of the granite and keep the grout the same color as the tile so it doesn't stand out.

Subway is my vote but other experts have already suggested this.

I am doing the same kitchen soon. I have tried to look at backsplash tile with my samples but I think I"m gonna have to wait til everything else is installed. I found the travertine too busy even with the samples. Plain subways looked great in almost a slight green tone as our typhoon bourdeaux seems to have a green/grey tone to it. The one the tile woman suggested I keep in mind that looked beautiful is copper. It's pricey but it appeared as if it might look really nice. Would love to see a picture when you are done.

Subway tile cliche and ugly, common and not interesting. What beginners fall back to because it SEEMS to be an easy solution and always the go to for TV designers.

I'm not a big fan of subway tile but may have to do as Sharon suggested and just wait until the kitchen is complete. Thank you everyone.

I just installed a tin backsplash in a similar situation, and it is absolutely gorgeous.

A 3x6 or larger format glass subway in a single color should not compete with your granite. It wouldn't be any different than a solid color ceramic. We did a gray glass backsplash with our very busy granite and it looks fabulous. Our backsplash is the single biggest compliment we get on our kitchen renovation.

I used this granite in a kitchen about a year ago, the movement is so beautiful. We paired it with crema marfil on floor and travertine backsplash, this made the granite the show piece . Pictures are on houzz and at www.hudsonavenueinteriors.com under andersonville farm house. Take a look, we had mostly dark cabinets too.

We have dark oak cupboards(read texture) with a dark granite - subtle grain-and limestone floor . We opted for glass tile in a small rectangular shape, single color and added pattern with square mini tiles in all our colors ( wall,floor,granite ) The pattern was linear and used 1/3 rd of wall space not to overwhelm.

Go with gray glass tile.

I did beaded board backsplash to match my cabinets. It is beautiful and gives the look of a beautiful furniture piece. Easy to clean and gorgeous! Timeless in that you don't tire of a tile pattern or color.

I also have typhoon Bordeaux granite and I used the granite for my backsplash. It is absolutely gorgeous especially when the under cabinet lighting is on. Have received many compliments. I guess it s busy but I really luv the granite and it looks great with my white kitchen cabinets.

I just did my kitchen as well and i used copper flashing for my backsplash. Hubby used some beaded trim and think it looks great. You could use a steel for yours being you have grey in your tile for the floor. A brushed steel would go with your knobs and light. Good luck.

How about considering clear mirror. It will repeat and continue the drama of the marble without distracting the pattern on tiles. Seamless, avilable up to 12' long, I'd vote for mirror to highlight and add depth to your new kitchen.

Do you have stainless steel appliances? If yes, a stainless steel backsplash should look great; I would go for plain, no tiles, no patterns; that way it won't compete with the granite.
