I like the idea you used...and there's a coolness factor there too...but the proportions just don't look right. It looks too contrived....like things aren't flowing.

This room is unique and beautiful. I get so tired looking at pictures and dilemmas on houzz where everyone wants their home to look like something out of a furniture showroom or magazine with the latest trends (read grey walls, granite, yellow and grey trellis patterns, etc.) although some elements are not to my taste...the room is imaginative and interesting!

I'm loving it all......sofa's give it a "Alice in Wonderland" whimsy, what a great place to gather.

I really, really love the chocolate/mustard colour scheme. In general, I think the room looks great -- the only comment I have to the contrary is to question if there's enough walking space around those couches. Without knowing the measurements, visually it looks like I'd trip over that lamp by the mirror or that credenza by the fireplace if I walked on either side of the couches towards the seating area in front of the window. I love the design, but the high-backed couches make the room look smaller. But that could also be a trick of the camera skewing perspectives.

colors are GREAT! Sofas look like they came from an amusement park.

Looks like art to me. I would never question what another person considers art, as art is a very personal choice. I find the painting and the lighting adds whimsy to the room, and makes it fun. I am guessing from the comments, that people would cringe if they saw my home. Yikes!

If the homeowner is okay with this finished look, then more power to her. I personally would never choose brown + yellow with these pieces. I think the seating groups are very disjointed and would not make an inviting room for a lively group gathering at all. The proof is in the pudding, if the homeowner continues to use this designer for the rest of the house, then she loves it.

You must be kidding. Seriously. Bad. Urghh. Those sofas. The scale. The fixture. The "art." Pack it in and go back to decorating school.

Interesting- but chops the room all up, not my style, glad your clients are happy- that's all that matters.

Great job! The client always comes first! Most of us aren't used to seeing such unique furnishings and we get stuck on basics. True, the sofas may not be great for lounging for watching TV, but these look super comfy for conversation!

I just feel that this room lacks proportion and symmetry in so many ways and in a way reminds me of a hotel lobby in which small conversation areas are needed, due to their large public areas. Each item in this room is fine on its own; the sofa, for example, would have looked wonderful placed along the wall as dining room seating - cozy, intimate and not overwhelming the room. It would be a boring world though if we all liked the same things.

It's great how you've pulled it all together and I love the unexpected contrasting colour scheme. However I don't like the sofas. Too high.

That type of sofa is in some of the highest ranking Hotels ! They are beautiful and comfortable !!! You did a wonderful job. I understand the table in the middle too. Wouldn't change a thing. It's already perfect.

I like the custom sofas, but do not feel that they work with the low ceiling height. They just make the ceiling look lower and room smaller. They would have worked better in a room with at least 12 foot ceilings.

But, I guess if the client is happy it does not matter what anyone thinks.

and those are 9 foot ceilings!

Each to his own - great that the client is happy. I would not be happy with that look. The sofas are hideous in that layout. Maybe one in a room would work as a statement piece but the total effect is very off-putting. My 'WOW' would be followed by ' what the hell happened here?'

too many comments, but my first thought from before to after was I liked everything but the 2 couches. I don't mind their placement or color, its the fact that the backs are so straight and high. Not conducive to people relaxing across from one another and talking for an hour or more. Anyone sitting in the middle as apposed to the end of the couch, can't reach their arms up and rest them on the back. The high backs also block that pretty fireplace, at least from the angle you have shown, which is most likely what people see first when the walk in. Everything else is nice throughout, it's just the couch height that ruins it for me :)

To bring home my point :)) comment from Cindy (That type of sofa is in some of the highest ranking Hotels ! ) exactly... hotels lobbies are fine, because its not a family situation, nor do people sit there for hours of family time to relax and talk. they sit there probably for under 15 mins while waiting coming and going from the hotel to their next destination :)

I love designers who are creative and are not afraid to try something new. Having said that, this just does not work at all. Love the colour schemes, but the art over the wall and the light fixtures really cheapen this look. I do like the couches, but I don't think they work in this room

Brandi, I don't have to ask...some of the comments are downright rude. I even noticed a professional designer's post was rude at another post.

If you don't like the room; fine. Don't personally attack the designer or the owner, and their vision. I think of this site as a place where people can show their designs without expecting ridicule or rudeness. It may not be your taste, and you may not like it, but be nice.

I can appreciate the work that went into planning the room shown. I also think it makes for a great conversation area. The room is fun and different! Good job.

I don't think "bulling" was occurring here, or bullying, rather if that's what Brandi meant. This designer or owner was not being bullied by the comments. Bullied and rude are two entirely different areas.

Glad the client is happy. Think it's OK when Houzzers give their opinions. The place is striking, it is going to create reactions.

Kimberly Janes does fabulous work and is still in a successful business. She probably couldn't care any less about what we lowly Houzzers think!

I would LOVE everything about this space, including the sofas, if the room was twice as big and the ceilings were really high (as in a great room)

(That said I'm currently decorating in the style of "post-college-twenty years-after-the-fact-with-family-hand-me-downs" What do I know really? )

I really like the brown wall paint as it goes well with the hardwood. The room has a bit of an intellectual look to it.

Love the way people comment purely citing personal taste. As designers we have a brief to fulfil which is often to lengthily to include here. Positive and negative constructive criticism is excellent. Many people here are not only rude but mean spirited.

Judith, This room is not my personal taste. However, that does not mean that I don't like it. I appreciate the planning and the work done to make the room into a design that the owner would appreciate.

I never think about my own personal taste when commenting on a room. I guess that's why friends will ask me to help them, as I don't think about things I like, but elements that I know they like.

I don't think the comments are rude or bullying. No one should expect to put their work out for review and comment and receive all accolades. Yes, there are so many positive aspects to the room but clearly the sofas struck a note with everyone (good and bad). I like when a designer takes it a bit over the top and creates a look that is unique. However, I have to be able to connect with the overall look and feel comfortable in the setting. I'm glad she achieved that with the client, because, in the final analysis that is what counts.

I think the worst of the comments have disappeared, as I don't see them anymore. This goes back a few months. Some of the comments were pretty rude. I'm glad they are no longer on here.

I didn't take Judith's comment was bad or even rude. I think what she was trying to say, is the designer works with a client and what that client wants. She's correct in that there were some pretty mean-spirited comments; some of them quite offensive. I don't see them now.

Beige no more! The color of the sofas against the walls is whimsical ... in a very grown up way! Does the client ... and her family love it!?

If they do, at the end of the day, isn't that all that matters and the aim of an interior professional? I'm not one, however do appreciate the pros ability to create what I envision but can't articulate to that 'designer-look' level.

There are many things I like here, though it's not my style but then most things aren't, frankly. I am sorry to read the "mean-spirited" (and that's putting it mildly in a few cases) remarks. Can't we express our opinions without being rude?

What a great space with good bones, but brown walls are outdated. Sofa color is a pop, but height really chops up the room making it very disjointed IMO. I realize from a designer standpoint, this may seem fantastic, but I wonder what the client really thinks. There were so many other possibilities to make this space great.

The colour scheme is beautiful...but i would n't have such seating in the centre of my living room as it cuts the flow visually & otherwise...

To want to block the view with two of those sofas, it must have been a truly awful view. I'd feel like a child in a time out forced to look at a wall sitting in either one. Otherwise, the room looks nice.

I think you have a chic taste. However , I don't think all these beautiful pieces work in that place. The high chair will be stunning in a wide and big place but not this one. They made the place overwhelming . They even hide everything behind them . As far as the other decor item , again I like them all but I don't think I will put them all together because it is too much .
It is definite though that you have a classy taste in picking unique pieces.
