(I've seen a silver linden planted on an ordinary dry-looking lawn in Seattle shoot right up; I've also been to a formal rose garden park in Portland with long-established silver lindens around the edges - using the Parks web site or maybe one that talks rose gardens you can probably pretty quickly find out where that is and go look at the trees)

You are up in Canada, not the Willamette Valley. So much the better, actually, as amazing tall silver linden(s) can be seen at Riverview, east of Vancouver.

My neighbors all grew Blue Spruce. They are fast growing,beautiful trees that get very large.
