Iris and lilies like sun. I would plant the iris in the west exposure. The lilies need at least 6 hours of sun so all of the 3 exposures would work fine for them also. I would get them planted as soon as possible. Lily bulbs die if they completely dry out. If you have tall bearded iris they need good drainage or the rhizomes rot. The iris usually don't bloom the first year, but the lilies probably will. Good luck with your new garden.

If you can't plant outside immediately, I would plant the tubers and bulbs in gallon pots and plant them out later when they are growing. Lilies are usually planted in fall and irises in late summer. Ive had trouble with squirrels eating my lilies when planted in the fall so I planted some in pots one year and kept them in my non-freezing garage all winter, then planted them out when they were growing, and they did fine.

Thanks for your help! The resulting flowers will all be a pleasant surprise as my co-worker was not able to tell me the names of any of these. Sounds like I'd better get busy!
