The real choice is pavers or artificial turf or pavers; and again like GST said you can a combination of both. I was thinking about using artifical grass instead of stone or cement because of how hot the surfaces become in full sun. Will the artificial turf stand up well to the heat? How about pets who may still use it like real grass? Can you just hose it off every once in a while as needed to keep it clean --- it doesn't rain much here, if at all, during the summer.

Artificial turf is great around a pool in place of real grass. The challenge is if you wish to install it over stone or cement in close proximity to the water. In a normal installation the sod is removed and 3 to 4 inches of topsoil excavated. Then a crushed aggregate is hauled in and compacted, the turf is then nailed down and a infill is applied. During this phase we can apply a safe non toxic mineral that helps prevent the smell when pets use it like real grass, and yes you can hose it off.

For a stone and cement application a double sided tape is utilized which could break down when constantly exposed to water.

Hi, I too have an upside down house. We currently have wood around all the pool but unfortunately the people who installed it usd nails instead of screws and painted it too! Are we able to putt the artificial grass over it and are we able to bring it to the very edge of the pool?

Melanie, we used true "white" concrete. it is more money, but... is not hot at all. We have 110 days lately and you can walk bare foot on it, or lay on it if you like. The old timers used to use it around pools for that reason. We make it on site to save money. hope this helps

Artificial grass is perfect around pools because it takes away the maintenance needed for real grass that always ends up in the pool. It's not just maintenance that drags debris into the pool, kids wet feet and wind help this process too. The pool in the picture is a perfect example of how good a pool turf project can look. hi I am a homeowner who had my contractor install precast stone around my pool that has artificial grass around it. since this installation my stone has been discolored and looks like the the salt from the moisture could be destroying my precast stone. my contractor says that this precast stone should not have been installed around the pool and that he now needs to rip it out and install something else does anyone know much bout this subject as I feel I'm getting the shaft from my contractor?

We have an above ground pool. The pool sits about a foot away from a cement patio that circles half way around the pool. I am thinking about using artificial turf in that section between the pool and cement. We do not want to use rock or stone of any sorts because the rock works itself under the liner and may potentially tear the liner. In reading through the comments I see where there is crushed aggregate used as a base under the turf, what else could be used besides this?
