I goofed up trying to send an anonymous gift to a sick elderly friend. Did not want her to feel any need to reciprocate or even say thanks. Just a nice little surprise.
Guess I'm still living in the dark ages as she called the police thinking the package might be "from terrorists".
Bet I won't do that again.

I'm thinking her age might have attributed to her concern/fear of the package. How/when did the package get opened or was it just blown up somewhere? Did you let her know it was from you?.....lol

Oh Beth, that is quite funny, but I did read a notice that was posted at my local PO. It talked about 'suspicious mail, and having no return address, or the return address being the same as the TO address being considered suspicious.

I try to discourage folks from having both the 'From' and 'To' address on bubblies as the same. I see no reason to cause any unnecessary concern to postal employees.

thanks for the PSA Sue! you wouldn't believe what we see at the post office, and yes, sometimes it does get a bit nerve-wracking! and, as an additional FYI, anytime a stamped package which weighs 13-ounces or more is found in a mailbox, it's left in the mailbox. all packages which weigh more than 10 ounces really should be taken to a local post office.

The police told her who it was from. I feel bad about the worry and all the fuss.
Worst of all State troopers called my daughter at work. We had used her address. She knew about the surprise, fortunately, but it was mess for all and sure NOT a fun surprise.
Did everything right except inform the recipiant.
