Hello Everyone! Today I received my utterly fantastic box from Beth, based upon the book Little House on the Prairie. And, would you believe I can't tell you everything she sent yet? Yep, that's right! Read on, and you'll understand...lol! When I opened the box, the first thing I read was a great letter from Beth, telling me that she not only lives just 20 miles away from the LHotP site, but that she's been there a couple of times and is planning on returning for a Blues music festival! I'm jealous! Then Beth suggested that I read the enclosed book, and when I reach certain pages, I can open a box or envelope which corresponds to that page. This is going to be so much fun to do! Knowing that I would need some things to open and play with right away, the ever-so-merciful Beth also sent a brochure about the LHotP site (which I may just have to plan a trip to visit now), some pink and white daffodils, a Little House Cookbook which has illustrations and recipes from the books, a reversible 9-patch hot pad (which I'll be using regularly wrapped in some wine-colored plaid material which could've come straight out of Laura and Mary's fabric stash, and some "prairie blue eyes" daylilies.

Beth, this box is absolutely amazing! I'm going to be setting aside my evenings until I finish the book, only stopping on pages 45, 109, 193, 248, and 313 just long enough to see what else you sent! You've turned reading into a game, and I LOVE IT!!! (can anyone tell that I'm excited???)

    THANK YOU!!!

***and now I'm off to enjoy my book!***

great idea beth...i love the ingenuity you put into dan's box. can't wait to hear what he received. i just love LHOTP.

speaking of boxes, beth, yours was mailed out today. the confirmation number is 0306 1070 0001 1655 2346. i got there as the post office was closing and loading, so i assume you'll get it in the next couple of days. it went priority and i could have died at the postage!!!!

i sure had a great time putting the box together and i certainly hope it shows up intact and quick and that you enjoy everything i sent.

heidi, this was an excellent idea for a swap. i would love to do something like this again.

as for the swaps...where do we stand for the remainder of the year? who has the schedule.

    be well everyone!

Hi Maryanne and thanks for taking Oct. I can't believe we are this close to Fall.

    Where is everyone??????????

    Shirley
    _______________

Shirley has not posted for quite awhile. I sure hope everything is okay with her. Shirley, we are thinking of you and miss you!

I think we should ask if someone will be hostess for December and get the rest of the year assigned. Anyone want to do this? Of course, I will be hostess for November - however, as you saw, it will not be the Book Swap, I have another idea. I think you will like it and I am planning to keep the cost low because I know lots of us will be trying to save up a bit for the upcoming holidays.

Thanks Jeanne, so glad I asked LOL

I need to get an idea and then post pretty soon. I can't believe we are at the end of yet another month. Where did this year go?

Dan I'm really glad it arrived. Have fun. I sure did.
Maryanne I have not used anything but flat rate boxes in a couple years. I was even balking at that when the rates went up the last time. I love when we use the little ones but that sure would not have worked for this time.
Jennifer, where are you? Hope you are OK.
I know last time I heard from her she said she was suffering from "Pregnancy Brain". With school started and the hot weather back for another round, that would be more than enough to do me in. LOL
Heidi, you seem to be running a pretty fast race too. Hope all is going well with the job and kids.

    Hi all
I heard from Jennifer. Please keep her in your prayers. She has been in and out of the hospital this past week. She told me that her box should go out this weekend. Oh and also she did receive her box. Just wanted to let you all know!
    Heidi

Heidi, thanks for posting that Jennifer received the box, and the DC# of the one you sent. Will be on the lookout. I do hope Jennifer is okay now.

No problem sending at the end; actually, I'm grateful! Just dug a couple of new beds, so I'm sure the timing is perfect! And, by the way, lucky you, getting rain! We haven't had any for what seems like months. Just got my water bill and it's painful! Wouldn't you know, this is the year that I installed some rain barrels, for all the good they've been :)

I have an off-the-subject question: does anyone know a store that would have a real wood cedar chest? You know, the kind that used to be called a "hope chest" or blanket chest? I really want one for the end of the bed to store winter things, so I don't have to trek them down to the basement cedar closets every year. I've been to a couple of furniture stores and on the internet and find only junk. Thanks!

    Have a good night, everyone!

Dottie check second hand stores and classified, you may even want to post on Craiglist. My husband's cousin was just talking about having three of them in her Mom's house and offered us one. We have the one his Mom bought many years ago so we do not need one, she is trying to get rid of them in yard sales.
Lane Furniture Company used to make them all.

dottie, hopechests.com or any decent furniture store should have them. i can't remember what town you are in, but there's a mealey's in mt. laurel that sells them.

i have three....all older than me. i'm really hoping LOLOL
i would love to have my mom's - i think i'll ask her for it. i also have a cedar closet, which we put in my g-babe's room. she hasn't learned about the "secret compartment" yet.

i agree, you can look at craiglist or second hand stores, even put your name in places. otherwise, a good furniture store will sell them.

if you are in lancaster, or any amish community, you can definitely find one there!

    good luck!
    maryanne

Thanks, guys! I didn't think of Lancaster, and Lane is a good name to search. I'm in Lawrenceville, Maryanne, and I think there's a Mealey's around here somewhere. I remember getting mailed ads at some point. I hope to be able to leave the house again soon. lol. there have been construction crews every day for weeks.

We had RAIN last night! I'm so excited! No watering today!
My sister lives in Pa and didn't get any. Weird. Guess it has to start and stop somewhere.

Heidi, my box came today! Thank you, Heidi. It contained:

    Night blooming cereus
    dinosaur plant
    milkweed pod
    3 daylilies
a mighty growing dinosaur toy (my grandson will love it)
    pruner holster
a tin of ice breaker mints
    citrus vanilla candle (smells awesome)
    reeses pumpkin candy bar (gone!)
and a beautiful kitchen towel (I don't know how you knew the EXACT colors of my new kitchen, but it's totally spot-on!)

    THANKS, Heidi!

    Hi everyone.

Hoping Beth made it to the post office. I'm nervous about some of the contents just sitting.

Dottie, we had rain last night, as a matter of fact, one he!! of a storm. can't remember the last time we had rain down here. i have it up the mountains all the time, it seems.

Hello Everyone! I finished reading Little House on the Prairie last night, and as per Beth's instructions, waited until I got to the appropriate pages to open the envelopes and box, which was no easy task! I'm glad I waited though, it was the most fun I've had reading or re-reading a book I've ever had! So, with no further ado, I am finally ready to share the "rest of the story"...
Page 45 was an envelope with wildflower seeds in it.
Page 109's envelope had larkspur and alaska daisy seeds.
On page 193, Pa was eating a huge watermelon, and so Beth sent watermelon seeds.
On page 248 Mr. Edwards was giving Laura and Mary their gifts from Santa, a tin cup, penny, peppermint stick, and a cake with white sugar on top for each of them. Beth sent me a tin cup, penny, peppermint stick, and 2 huge sugar cookies made with white sugar on top. (talk about feeling like a kid on Christmas morning again!)
Page 313 the Ingalls' were planting a garden, and now I've got onion, carrot, cabbage, and lettuce seed for one of my own!
    HOW COOL WAS ALL THIS!!!???
    Once again Beth.....THANK YOU!!!

    Just a quick message here.
Maryanne, I have been in these swaps for about 8 years now and this was one of the top two boxes I have ever seen.
Felt like a birthday box and a GW box at the same time.
We started on the pie, I planned to share with neighbors and Jack said wait till we see how good it is first. that tickled me cause he's not much on sweets.
Well, it has not made it to our door yet so I guess the neighbors are out of luck. O M gosh!!!!! we both want to come and live with you. LOL
No time now to do this wonderful package justice as Jack is back in the hospital and going for another Cardiac cath to check his stents. Getting old is just NO FUN. Welll, not as much as we had expected anyway.
Maryanne you really made our day. Mine especially.
    hugs
    Beth

beth, hope everything goes well with jack. and thanks so much on the compliment. i will wait to hear what you think when you have the time to post. i certainly enjoyed putting the box together - i just loved this theme as well.

i posted the swap for october.

    have a wonderful weekend everyone.
the weather is still sticky summer-like, i have the air on!

Thanks again Maryanne. I am still awed by this package.
Maryanne used quotes from the book to relate her gifts to the book. The Packages had cards with quotes attached and were festively wrapped. What fun to read and open each one. I got a 50th anniversary copy of To Kill a Mocking Bird. Which I started reading while sitting at the hosp waiting, glad I had it. Also, a backyard bird book that is really nice. Full of tips projects and pictures. We will both be enjoying this one.
And then..... the food. I got a quart jar of bread and butter pickles, tomato bruchetta,Jalepeno jelly, zucchini relish and the previously mentioned pecan pie. All made by Maryanne. I feel so blessed with this bounty.
She also included a Halloween table cloth to represent "Boo" Radley(cute and clever idea) and two snowmen for my collection.
I do hope I have not forgotten anything.
The pie is fantastic ( we are not sharing Ha ha ha) and I'm sure we will enjoy the other treats over the next couple months.
My hat is off to Heidi for the Theme and to Maryanne for a fantastic box.
Oh mercy, I forgot the plants. There is a white azalea. I love them. When I lived in MD I had a row of Wt Azaleas under the dining room window and they were always where I saw the first humming birds of the year.
I think I'll leave this one here in custody of my Daughter. I'm sure it will be happier here than in AZ. I'm always buying her plants that I want and then she sends me pictures when they bloom. It's a weird sort of share cropping but, A good old southern tradition.
The other is a dwarf pink canna and I'm sure that will do fine in AZ so it can go home with me.
I just may save the pickles for Thanksgiving or Christmas. That will share the wealth with even more people. This truly will be a long remembered gift.
