It installed. What are the pros and cons? Thanks.

You might do a search on this board for lots of narrative. Pros are crazy high efficiency if you take duct losses into account. (There are lots of cons to ducts outside of the house envelope. If the ducts are inside in furr-downs, not as much.) They are inherently zoned so that helps keep operating costs down if you don't use much of your house at all times. Inverter compressors throttle down to a low capacity so they run at partial output for long periods offering great humidity control. for retrofitting a home with no ducts, like with hydronic heat, they are a natural. That is especially true if ducts are difficult to run. One nice thing is that you can end up with relatively small compressors that are easier to operate with a small backup genset. Inverter-driven compressors start up with less current inrush and they are just smaller so the strain on the generator is lower. I was running two indoor units, each on a separate outdoor unit, plus my ref rig, deep freezer, some lights and a fan on a 6800W (8500W surge) genset for three days with no apparent strain. For a while, I had a smaller genset running one of the compressor units by itself. I never heard it bog down at all.

Cons are somewhat higher cost especially if you go with ceiling cassettes or indoor units with short duct runs. If you have many small rooms, it can add up really fast. The high wall units are the least costly, but some people don't like the look. If you are planning on heating with them, the outlook is not as good as a couple of years ago if natural gas is available in your neighborhood. Gas prices have gone way down making heat pumps less attractive.

Post back if you stay serious.
