I say go for it! It looks like just the splash of color you want. You could always return them if they look out of place...you can't lose. Post a followup photo when you have them in place.

I think that they are $50 each (and I still have to buy shades). Pretty pricey to me but not so much so if they are just the perfect finishing touch.

They are fun and colorful---why not?? They will inject something new into your room and if you tire of the color you can always paint them. Or move to another room. I see drum shades on those lamps!

Since I am the queen of returns when I am buying something and having a hard time getting it right, I say they can always be returned if they don't work out. You will know when you put them in the room if they give you the look you want. A lot of times its just hard to tell till you get it in the room, which is the good thing about new items, they can be returned. Your house has so much character, those windows are beautiful.

I think they would look great.

Reading the subject line made me think: duh? How do you think my basement got to be so full and why one of these millennia I am going to have the most amazing garage sale?

Then I opened the message and realized you weren't calling me out (obviously) but wondering about the lamps. Target has an excellent return policy so it should be easy to try them out in situ and see how you feel.

I really like them. My reason is because it's so hard to find decent lamps that don't cost a fortune. When I look at the home decor stores, most of them have a fake wooden bottom or a cheaply painted metal (looking) one. I finally found some blue ones that were totally one color, like yours, at Home Goods after looking there for ages. So what if it's a trend. There have been worse ones. :)

Recent regret ... a coffee table that just isn't me. We are doing an addition and redecorating most of the house, so if that is my only regret/mistake then I will be fine with taking the loss and finding the right table. Only half way through the project, so we'll see where we end up!

I like the lamp. With Target, Home goods, etc I always bring the object home to decide if it is a keeper. When I haven't done that and gone back another day, the object I wanted is always gone.

Not rash at all, and if you regret it after you see them in the room, you can return them. And if you tire of the look later, you can paint them, & they'd look totally different (I say that because I have a pair of ORB lamps in my bedroom that I bought a few years ago, which have almost the identical shape to the yellow lamps you posted, but look quite different given the metallic finish and the burlap shades).

Instinct - it means "inner knowing". They have called you again and again, and you keep resisting. It is as if there is something holding you back - instinctively you are just not sure.

I don't think the color is the issue, because it seems as though it is perfect with your plan. The price is reasonable, and shades don't have to cost a fortune.

I think it is the shape of the lamps. If they were the mustard color in a simpler, more classic shape, I think you would have snatched them up a while ago.

The way to know for sure, I guess, is to buy them, bring them home, and test them out.

Les has an interesting point re: instinct. I will have to keep that in mind. Also interesting is the point regarding the shape.

I really like them but admit would also cringe a little at buying two of them for the cost, plus shades. As far as lamps go they're not really expensive but that must not be something I love spending money on. :)

I just remembered this lamp at Land's End. A bit more than the Target lamp, but also has a shade, so probably about the same total. Has a linen shade. Kind of echoes the effect of the stained glass in the transom. Free shipping, too.

The lamp les posted seems right for your home because of the blown glass. I like the idea of the mustard color , but not the shiny ,*plastic look of it...for your home. But as others have said, go get them , and your instincts will let you know immediately if they truly work. Return if not.

Well Tuesday_2008 got me thinking after posting that link. And then Les posted about instinct. Very astute point about being held back by something and, yes, I do wonder if it's the shape! So out of character of anything else in the house.

But I got to thinking about hitting my local thrift store to find something that I could spray paint a shade like that yellow. Then I remembered that I have 2 simpler candlestick lamps somewhere in my basement that could be just the right thing! I'm going to stop at the store on my way home tonight.

I think you liked them so much because they not only caught your eye (again & again, no less) but, simply, BECAUSE they were so trendy, very trendy. I think they would look fabulous in your house! I wouldn't choose the one's from Lands Ends...I don't think you were being held back because you really didn't want them. I think it's because you don't usually follow trends. And this surprised you. I love everything about those lamps for your place!

As to the spray paint? Yes, Michael's does sell it. Don't overlook the colors offered in the floral paint section, either. Don't forget that Lowe's and Home Depot sell it, too. Lots more than Michael's.

And lastly, not sure if you realize it but myperfectcolor has paint that can be ordered in any color that the site offers in spray form. Just think how handy and fun that would be!

Well Seashellsandpearls you have rocked my world w/ the new found knowledge of myperfectcolor and spray paint!

I wanted to stop at Michaels since it was on my way home otherwise I would have headed to Lowes or HD instead.

I did stop and I got school bus yellow (Bauhaus Gold) spraypaint but I am going to return it. I dug a few things out when I got home last night and I felt that the candlestick lights weren't 'weighty' enough for the side tables. I also dug out a pillow sham that I bought specifically for Fall and compared the small touch of yellow (it's the blue one in front in a 20x20 cover):

Upon thinking some more I remembered that I have other lamps in my attic that GW members had suggested that I could paint eons ago & they have shades:

I thought that these would work well in a more mustardy/ brown color (now looking at MPC - thank you SSP!) from my BM or SW deck or I saw some less bold shades of yellow from Krylon. Will look tonight on my way home from kids birthday party.

To pull a bit of yellow through the room I added a hint of it to the canvas that OI just painted.

Okay and here's what has been in the back of my mind w/ the Target lamps and shape (this is so embarassing because I know that they shouldn't work because of this). Here is my chandelier in the LR (such an awful picture - it really is 'airier' looking). Can you really see the Target lamps in the same room?

I think there is only one way to decide this. You have to go get them, put them in the room, and show us some pics. Try to get than chandelier in at least one pic!

And apparently, I am the only one that read your subject line and thought you were complaining that you were covered in a rash because you did something regrettable.

Love the attic lamps. I think they have the classic lines that will connect with your style, but will have a fresh appeal in the mustard/gold color.

How valuable are the shades? I am asking, because I think it could be striking to use paint with fabric medium in it to paint alternating panels of the shade in a grey.

I also thought about then doing all the seams and the top and bottom edges of the shades in a ribbon in the same mustard color as the lamp, but it might be too much.

If you are not feeling obligated to use the shades, you could also get simple drum shades. You might also look at lampsplus.com and search for custom drum shade (look for the black one with white chandeliers all over - too fun!). Lots of very cool choices, tho not cheap.

An inexpensive drum shade that allows you to cover with your own fabric, like a black and white toile or print, or other traditional print, would be another alternative. You can find those at places like JoAnn's Fabrics or Hobby Lobby, or other craft or home decor stores. Not very expensive.

I don't know if you have access to an IKEA, but I have these pillow covers and I thought of you today when I put them on the bed. They are mostly shades of grey, with some apple green and deep yellow accents. All embroidered. I have the IKEA feather pillow stuffers in them, and they are great. Thought they have a traditional vibe, but the more modern colors and white background could look great on the white couch.

Les - you read my mind! The shades were fairly new in that pic and they now have some staining on them after all of the years. I was hoping to replace them w/ an inexpensive drum shade. I was going to check Lowes and HD on Thursday.

Today I tried to spray one and it was a horrible failed attempt. Decided to use the Krylon BauHaus Gold. Apparently the tip was clogged (despite being brand new) and it came out in globs and poured out all over the can, my hand and globbed my lamp all up. DH promised he could fix the runs and drips for me.

I think it was meant to be because I had pulled out my BM Fan Decks and thought about buying color from the Me Perfect Color site as Sheshellsandpearls suggested. Even had the spray can in the truck to return it but decided to give it a go this morning and went out to retrieve it. DH told me to just buy what paimt color I like and he will put it in his sprayer at work and do the lamps for me.

I'm thinking BM Buttercup. I'm going to look through my SW deck too. DH to the rescue again!

I have an old SW fandeck, so the colors don't necessarily exist now, but I was looking at 6683 Bee or 6684 Brittlebush. I think you are looking for more of a mustard yellow, and something with enough depth to stand up to the blacks and greys but still add a spark.

Sorry, the only BM fandeck I currently have is the one for Affinity colors, so no yellows in the range you are seeking.

Thanks Les - you have a great eye! After looking through my decks some more I think I am actually going to go w/ a BM color called Fresh Olive #2149-30. It's a green that is heavy on the yellow/ gold side. Blends well w/ the gold in my pillow and is different enough from the greens in my paintings. Looks pretty against the blues in the rooms. Thought I'd do the 2 lamps in that color and then a bluer shade of green for either a floor lamp base or for sconces flanking the flat screen.
