Amazing improvement, it looks great! We are thinking to do the same but we will do it ourselves. Did you use a special paint to make it less slippery? I know it might sound a bit stupid but many people are actually putting us off for health and safety!... :s. Thanks

Thanks Inmayae, no actually he just used Miniwax Gel Stain and I painted the belly with ultra white glossy Behr paint and its not slippery at all at least not yet.... I love it:-)

looks great, I have a much smaller staircase and I was thinking of restaining my stairs myself.

Rivers300 I actually restained the handrail myself, I used 120 grade sand paper, wiped all the residual dust away with a damp cloth and then stained with the same stain the guy used for the stairs (homedepot) Miniwax Gel Stain walnut color.... It was time consuming but well worth it:-)

Thanks for the info, it sounds doable. I have a split entry home so I have two sets of five stairs. I have a small hand sander too.

Hi -- it looks so good! Can you tell me if you put the new tread on top of the old tread? Or used the new wood tread alone on top? The guys at the lumbar store told me to put the new tread on top and then get a new riser to cover the increase in height going up from the stair below. This seems like a lot of trouble -- I bought the exact same new tread you show in your picture. Looks like you had to buy new risers too? Thanks -- it's exactly my stair project I have ready to roll!

very nice. be careful, it will get slippery, especially if you walk on the stairs with socks or smooth souled shoes. We had ours with no rugs for a couple months while I refinished ours, and both my husband and I noticed how slippery it was, ours is a solid oak stair.
