Color choice help needed.

We are having a front walkway put in. I don't like the color of the pavers they used. We are having it redone and I need help with picking the right color of pavers to go with my house brick. Any advice would be appreciated.

Mary

My uncle is an interior decorator - well known in the Chicago and Milwaukee community and has been in the cover of Milwaukee Magazine as well as some others, and most recently had HGTV in his home which should air after the new year.

You don't have to match the color of the pavers to the house. What I would suggest is if the house is a light color, use a darker contrasting color for the pavers, and vice versa. Just use a color that is going to complement what you have on the house, but don't try to repeat those exact colors in the pavers, because then it's going to look like you were trying to repeat those colors. I would use solid colored pavers since your house is multi-colored. It looks too noisy with all hues in the brick and the pavers. Go with something solid, and something darker. Is there a darkest color in your bricks that you could pull out and coordinate with a paver? You could use a lighter colored paver along the borders, and use darker earthy pavers on the interior to complement the trim on your home. I think a cream colored border would look nice (similar to lannonstone), with a darker interior.

BTW - If you don't know what to do with those extra pavers, feel free to send them my way!

I also wouldn't put the circular patterns in the middle. It detracts from the house and you really want something that is going to flow better. Your home is the focal point, and the circles are distracting patterns that don't flow well. So unless you are putting a centerpiece on the circular area, I wouldn't recommend it. The eye should flow easy up to the house.

I totally agree with kimcoco on the colors. I could certainly see a dark uniform color with a light border. That would look slick.

I will disagree about the circular pattern though. I like the look of the circular pattern and I don't feel like it would distract at all. It does add interest to the walkway though.

I guess if crop circles are your thing, they are ok!

They have absolutely nothing to do with the architecture of the home, and it's not visually pleasing to the eye.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I suppose it's all a matter of taste. Do what you are most comfortable with, because you are the one who will have to look at it.

Instead of tearing them out, I would try using a white color wash on them. I don't mean painting them white. I mean diluting some paint and rubing in the color. That would match the color of the brick on your home. If it doesn't look good, you still can pull them out and redo them. You have nothing to loose by trying. If you get a professional decorative painter to do it, they will know the proper materials and tecniques to use. You can experiment in an inconspicuos place first.

I'm a decorative painter. I think that would look better than anything else you could use. There are sites that can refer you to experienced decorative painters. If you have trouble finding one, e-mail me. If you have patience, and are handy, I think you could do it yourself. Just be sure to dilute the paint with the proper medium and use paint that is rated for outdoor concrete.

    Hi,
Thank you all for your help. I did pick out another paver, and we are having it redone. I am leaving the circles out. I will post a picture when it's done.
    Good day!

Here is the new pavers. It's better, but not awsome. Terrible landscape design also. I have to have it redone next year by a better landscaper, this one was not to good. Check out the Celtic Wall.
